Re: Kewanee, IL Cruise Night July 17

It's raining like crazy again today, but tomorrow night is looking like a go.
Good thing the cruise is in the evening. It's supposed to get hot and sticky.
Just as well that I don't do judged shows... the heat and humidity Saturday is going to be oppressive.

Re: Appraisal values

value of these cars are very strange. No drift tax on them even though RWD. Crappy non turbo 240s and 300zx go for the price of good XR's. I had a guy knock on my door and ask if my car was for sale. The guy said that the ones that are for sale are too expensive, I looked I found 2 for sale one was...

Re: Kewanee, IL Cruise Night July 17

I'm coming to the cruise in on Friday for sure if it doesn't rain.
I've been doing a lot of those, but I'm not really into judged shows. I just like to hang out and check out the cars.

Kewanee, IL Cruise Night July 17

Since I bought my Merkur in Kewanee, I am coming to this Cruise Night if for once it doesn't rain.

I'm posting this to see if Miguel might come out so we can freak Kewaneeans out with a Merkur Infestation.

Re: Appraisal values

Got another instant appraisal... $15K!?!? The young guys always guess way high.
When turbos become classic maybe these things WILL be worth something.

I'll take that deal if I can find a nice first gen M3 for $1299.99!

Re: Appraisal values

More evidence in support of the allegation that WE are the single biggest reason why these cars "aren't worth anything." Maybe someday. With cars you never know. If someone would've told me years ago that a '80's vintage M3 was going to be a six figure car, I would've told 'em they were nuts. I'd b...

Re: Appraisal values

I just have agreed value on mine for the $8K I paid for it.
Sometimes people ask what I paid at shows, so I ask them to do a spot "appraisal".
Even car guys have no idea... the answer is always at least 50% more than I paid.

Re: New Member - Is this worth buying?

I need to get the hang of the using the throttle to get the 3-speed to be in the gear I want. It's a long ways from 2nd to 3rd. What??? It starts off in 1st and maybe about 15/20 mph slides into 2nd and then if the road is level into 3rd shorty after. Or, depress the accelerator further in either 1...

Re: New Member - Is this worth buying?

The car came with the owners manual and some other paperwork. Also the display board and a plaque from Carlisle. And a minty '89 XR4Ti brochure. I'll be looking into the gas gauge issue. I need to get the hang of the using the throttle to get the 3-speed to be in the gear I want. It's a long ways fr...

Re: New Member - Is this worth buying?

The deal is done!

Everything works except the gas gauge. They told me that the sending unit is functioning, so it's something else.
Not a big deal. When I put gas in it I push the trip odometer button. When it reaches 200 miles I put gas in it again.

Re: New Member - Is this worth buying?

Update #2:
I knew it! The muffler had a tiny hole in the top of it.
They're going to have a custom muffler guy fix it.

Re: New Member - Is this worth buying?

Can't argue with that... thanks for keeping us posted. We know where to get all the parts in case they (at the dealership) don't. I think owning a Merkur will be a lot easier than it used to be. When I owned mine we didn't have these fancy Interwebs. 5/9 Update: The brakes and transmission are fixe...

Re: New Member - Is this worth buying?

I sent the sales guy an email saying that he needs to fix these issues.
Today is his day off, but I expect to hear something tomorrow. Maybe I'll call and pester him.

After all... this is the most important car at their dealership.
The rest of 'em are just Fords. :puke
