Vin Decoder

The previous owner of my 88' is really starting to get on my nerves. They did a crappy respray of the car in the wrong environment, which is bubbling under the surface of the paint. They also painted over the yellow build date on the front strut mount, and removed and threw away the vehicle informat...

Re: PCV Valve?

I found a Ford OEM gasket for the 2.3 ranger on amazon for $50 + free shipping. I will probably order that one, but if it doesn't work out there is a salvage yard I could check without much trouble. Thanks for the heads up and ideas!

Re: PCV Valve?

I checked the breather and everything seems to be working properly. I ordered the Motorcraft part to replace the PCV, just so I know it's not a problem. I am thinking it might be that the seal/gasket is leaking simply because it is old. I'm going to replace the front crank seal and front cover gaske...

Re: PCV Valve?

Very well, I will replace with a motorcraft part! To check the breather, should I just remove it and look for a clog?

Re: PCV Valve?

Thank you! Update: The PCV valve, as you pointed out, is not Motorcraft. It does work, however, and neither the valve or the hoses are clogged. Could the breather cause a leaky seal as well?

PCV Valve?

Hello everyone! My xr has recently developed an oil leak, and I just pinpointed it to the crank seal or some other front end seal behind the timing cover. I have read that PCV valves can pressurize the engine, causing seals to blow out, which would make sense in my application because it seems to be...

Re: Selling everything! No reasonable offer refused

So is everything for sale here that I would need to make my merkurdepot shorty radiator/intercooler functional? If so how much would you want for that kit? Thanks!

Re: Single-Plane Wing Gasket

I'm going to try to get some thicker rubber washers from a hardware store to serve as the gaskets, so hopefully that will work. It should at least improve the problem, since a few of them were just completely missing.

Single-Plane Wing Gasket

Hi everyone! On my 88 (single plane wing) I had a leak into the spare tire well and now I have pinpointed where it is coming from. It is coming through the 3rd brake light in the spoiler, into the tray on the hatch, and seeping over into the trunk. To fix this problem, I could use a sealant like RTV...

Re: Electronic dipstick..

Doesn't anyone, like Jeff or Mike, have a used, late-model dipstick for him? Or, peruse the local JY for a 2.3 dipstick from any car using that engine. By "late" car, would an 88 have this late style dipstick? Because my 88 does not have a plastic end on it, just metal and I have been thinking my c...

Re: Oil usage

I did actually see a small leak towards the back of the valve cover, however it was not actively dripping and did not look like it had been spewing oil at that sort of rate. I will get that area super clean then watch carefully for any major leaks. Thank you Ed!

Re: Oil usage

By the way, the car seems to be running fine. Not down on power at all, shoots right up to full boost with no problems at all.

Oil usage

Hey everyone, I have recently discovered that my engine is using oil. It is consuming around 1.5 qts of 10W-40 high milage every 650 miles. There are no oil leaks major enough to cause dripping onto the ground, and I can't see or smell anything foul coming out of the exhaust. There is no oil in the ...

What heat wrap techniques have you used?

Hello all,
In an effort to save some cracking of my low pressure AC hoses and some life in my battery, I would like to shield these components from the heat of the turbo. I would like to know how you have been successful/unsuccessful in heat wrapping/proofing your battery and AC hose. Thanks!
