Re: Stock Scorpio 5-speed?

Unfortunately in CA, the engine has to be installed in the same configuration as it was in the donor car. How did you ever find out about that rule? The later engines you suggest are all great suggestions. But none are an easy path to more power in the Scorpio. BTW - The flexplate solution for the ...

Re: Stock Scorpio 5-speed?

I think the oil pan on the SHO motor is going to interfere with the cross member or the steering rack on the Scorpio. You can see some pictures here about halfway down and see what I mean. https://shoforum.com/index.php?threads/914-sho-project-thread.88378/page-4#post-972105 All the other engine dim...

Re: No turn signal, no brake lights, no backup lights, no speedo

You guys just gave me a good idea. Some of us have the cowl leaf cover, but you know what is really needed? Another separate leaf cover to go over the fuse box area. I'm going to see if I can 3d print something that matches the original cowl cover.

Re: No turn signal, no brake lights, no backup lights, no speedo

I lost my Ranger to Scorpio VSS converter circuit when my A/C clutch diode failed. As I recall I also lost turn signals when that happened, but I didn't check the other lights at the time. The A/C clutch diode on the Scorpio is susceptible to corrosion on its connections. There is a TSB regarding th...

Re: Stock Scorpio 5-speed?

I'd do that Ecoboost, personally. Even a 2.0l would be more power. A 1.6l would probably feel like more power! Seems a shame to match a 7500rpm V6 to an automatic. Well, an A4LD anyway. High revving slushbox hurts my ears. :D I have a sports car if I want to wind through the gears - The Scorpio is ...

You will also start to loose proper operation of the fuel computer if the VSS is shot.

Re: SHO Engine Swap

If you want a manual SHO conversion, there is a outfit that makes an adapter that gets you to a standard SBF pattern.

But then you have work out trans mount, clutch, and driveshaft.

Personally I don't prefer a manual in the Scorpio. But I would like more power.

Re: SHO Engine Swap

I did a little research over on the SHO forums. The easiest way to put an SHO into a Scorpio is to send your A4LD to PATS transmission center and have them put all the bulletproof 4.0 parts into it. $2300 , Then you have them (or locate on your own) a Vulcan 3.0 A4LD bellhousing. Easier to find vs t...

Re: SHO Engine Swap

Here's the only problem...Manual trans Aerostar bellhousing is unobtanium.

Re: SHO Engine Swap

The Yamaha V6 has indeed already been installed in a couple XR's, so dropping into a Scorpio wouldn't be much different. But at this point, I'd rather opt for a lighter, more compact V6. Yep, I hear ya. The right thing in my logical mind says "EcoBoost 2.3L swap". But despite the fact the SHO motor...

SHO Engine Swap

HO 2.9L? Unless it was going to be the Cosworth, I don't see getting much more out of the 2.9L. Which reminds me. You know what would be another good engine to put in the Scorpio? That Yamaha engine they put in the early Taurus SHO. This guy put one in an old Healey. http://www.britishv8.org/Other/N...

Re: A4LD... What's out of adjustment?

I am sorry your valve body approach did not pan out.

The good thing is you can always swap your kitted valve body into another case. Which I suspect is what you are planning.

Otherwise you think the shift kit is worth the effort?

Re: Stock Scorpio 5-speed?

I don't know why the servos would be different. A rebuild kit for an A4LD does not care about the application. The only exception would be the torque converter. But I could be wrong...

Re: Stock Scorpio 5-speed?

Perhaps these bellhousings images can help... I believe tailshaft housing on the Scorpio is unique, but swapable.
Be sure to do some web research on "A4LD front pump seal replacement".
