Re: Fuel pump q's

the two XRs I've owned with a walbro have been fine. the pump is only audible before start up and even then it isn't any more annoying than the buzzing sound of when you have your key in the ignition.

if its only going to be for a short period of time... just install the KYBs as is. working struts > blown struts... I would know as I currently have a blown strut on my XR

Re: Intercooler tubing modification.

I watched a recent episode of Engine Masters where they were testing an engine on a dyno after whacking the header pipes with a big hammer. they saw no performance hit until they really flattened a bunch of the pipes and even then the performance loss wasn't bad at all.... a few HP max. This can pro...

Unless both of the 88's that I did/currently own had their entire interior swapped, they had/have the same color grey leather that my 86 had.

Re: Rough idle, lack of power

There's a reason XR owners drive around with a spare TFI (ignition control module if you want to look it up at autozone or whatever). Last time i bought one (2006 or 2007?) it was 23 bucks. not sure about availability now but someone else would totally know. TFI is always worth just replacing if the...

Re: New Merkur Owner - SE Michigan

It would be nice to make a Michigan get together happen this summer. I know I won't make it to Carlisle, and I'll be lucky to have my xr on the road again by mid June. It seems there are enough people still around to make it happen. I've cruised to a quite a few meets and cars and coffee's with svo...

Kalamazoo, MI Cars and Coffee

For anyone interested in being around another Merkur (or two!) the last Saturday of every month is a cars and coffee event at the Panera on West Main in Kalamazoo, MI. It generally starts around 9am. Lots of cool cars show up. You should totally go if you're within a decent distance from Kzoo!

i have a (bosch?) bpv on my car already as i believe it came with the rapido intercooler kit... i dont think im going to go real BOV until i upgrade to a real intercooler with all new piping (next year?)... so in the meantime i could probably do something like this, right?

Re: Bad alternator?

On my way home from work last night I noticed the car cranked to start but very weak. It was raining out and the wiper blades started moving really slow. My lights started dimming. Then the car started breaking up and died. Tried to start and all I got was a click. It has a brand new battery that I...

Re: Ring and Pinion gear options

I have a NOS service kit. Was $$$ from ford. Bought it from a local dealer years ago. Contains new ring and pinion, lots of shims and bearings. If you're interested, I'll get it off the shelf and get pics. Mike What would you be asking for it? I would, however, like to know if there are options ava...

Ring and Pinion gear options

I'm looking to overhaul my rear end and was curious if there any options at all or just where to get new stock ratio ones. Anyone have any experience with this?

Re: "Ray's AKA demonfire's XR4Ti build up"

I'm really curious about this compression strut/no sway bar thing. I'm about to completely overhaul my front suspension and this sounds like it makes the car behave better. If it's more planted on tight snappy autocross corners i can only imagine the type of grip it would provide a road course...
