Re: XR4ST

I love what you did, I need to eventually put a modern engine in mine, Im getting fed up with the trouble. Couple questions: Hows the hood clearance? Could the engine of moved up a bit higher to clear better the suspension? Could the engine of moved forward more to allow more firewall clearance? Is ...

PCV tube blocked?

Hi All, My car always leaks oil, Ive changed all the gaskets, but the oil seems to come from one place or another. I have an OEM PCV valve, but I was wondering if it ever happened to someone that the tube or passageway got blocked/restricted over the years. Im just asking to see if its a common prob...

Fuel Pressure Damper Delete

Hi guys,
quick question, has anyone deleted or replaced with aftermarket the little round thing found on the rubber fuel line? I want to replace the lines with stainless, but don't want to use the OEM damper because it would require more fittings and more potential for leaks.

Thanks guys!

Re: On the hunt

I probably bought the rougest of rough XR out there. Not TERRIBLE, but the overall package was acceptable. I want to build a track car with it (not a hardcore racer, just a weekend track day car) so the little rust didnt bother me. I got new rockers from fixmyrust and got rid of the cladding dents i...

Re: 1st endurance race in the books

i didnt see you mention anything about bushings. If you didnt do that, do ALL of them.

Solid mount the rear subframe and go hard (Black) delrin bushings everywhere else. Use the MC2 rear diff mount. MC2 makes steering rack bushings as well.

Re: So, maybe turbo time...

thats surprising, looks like a defective turbo, or as you suggested a lack of lubrication to it.

Re: Rear Main Seal Install

pilot bearing was a nightmare for me. The grease trick never works on these pilot bearings, they're way too small and dont have enough surface area.
The harbor freight pilot bearing puller is also too big, but maybe if you filed down the tips, it could work... never thought about that till now.

Re: New Updated Build Thread. 1989 XR4. 4 years of progress.

Car is still in storage (only Feb). But I have been collecting a couple parts takata harnesses. Got them for a hell of a deal in Toronto. Going to pick up some new OMP seats early this spring. https://image.ibb.co/mLDgOH/IMG_6511.jpg Started buying parts for my Wilwood brakes. Got the Hats/rotors an...

I agree, bought brake parts off him. He's a great guy. Always stayed in contact even while he was making/modifying parts too.

Def don't hesitate to do business with him.

Re: Thinking about getting into XR4's

ya there were the coolant changes, but you could easily convert any year to an 89 style with a cosworth rad and 89 bottle, or a fancy aluminum bottle if someone ever makes some.

Re: Thinking about getting into XR4's

I'd say jump in--with the following caveat: The XR4Ti is a great chassis with a lot of potential, but the car is more potential than actual out of the box compared to a lot of cars similar to it such as an Rx-7, Celica Supra, 300Z, etc. It has a tough engine, but a lousy cylinder head that requires...

Re: Thinking about getting into XR4's

I'd like to add. I know about subarus (have a BRZ) and my friend has 2 STis, they're fast, and fun, however they're not as fun as a well done XR4. Its weird saying that because the STI is a much newer car, but its just not RWD. (The BRZ is, and very much reminds me of my XR4 though). That being said...

Re: Another XR racer build

The RS wing will not fit an 88 hatch. So, I will need to get an early hatch, but that's a future me problem. an OEM whale tail WILL fit on an 89 hatch. If you really want it to. the brackets basically sit on the rubber gasket for the window, and have enough room to run a few small bolts through the...
