Great information, thank you. This should go into the FAQ as a reference.

Well it might just fit. The BMW engine is a very compact package, and is only 5 liters. It'd be fun to do anyway.

One of the reasons I got into Merkurs was because they are different. You don't see them coming and going everywhere *except maybe in my driveway...* and I like to have things others either dismiss or overlook. Now then, the V8 into a XR is to me a great modification. So is a V6. And building up a I...

How/where did you get/build a motor with sealed bearings? That would be good information to share.

The flapper door (recirculation door) is controlled by the position of the heater control switch. When the switch is "off" or turned to the left (recuir) side of the dial it closes the recirc door; when the control is turned to the right (normal) it opens the door. The vacuum solenoid that...

Sure anyone can buy then build a 2.3 Ford, I'd never argue that. BUT we can build more power for these old design engines for far less $$$$ than the rice guys. And kick their butts on the road/track (usually - there are no absolutes) too. My son in laws best friend spent the money to import some hot...

The 5.0 in George's car has aluminum heads and all the GT 40 stuff on top so the engine should be at a similar weight to our turbo 4 fully dressed. Sidebar: Has anyone actually weighed a fully dressed turbo motor? How about a fully dressed 5.0 with an all aluminum top end?? It seems to handle as wel...

OK, Phil who sell's 'em says (I think) that the slop is normal and goes away upon installation in the car. Grayson, who seems to have a very solid understanding of the Merkur suspensions, says it's not and will still be sloppy upon installing in the car... Who IS right? I am getting ready to rebuild...

wouldn't you kill your fuel mileage with a 5.0? Not to mention you would throw off the near perfect front to rear weight distribution; and it will be much more difficult. Also it is really fun to put a little money into the 2.3T and smoke some V8's with it! I put a T5 in my 2.3T Merk before knowing...

I agree, it is really too large, but I NEEDED tires, had a BMW with almost new tires, had sold the BMW with other wheels on it, tool these tires and put 'em onto XR wheels. I do have 205 x 60 x 15's on the front. The 225's would never make it by the strut.

I have a Full 7 1/2 cosworth rear in my car (diff, axles,hubs,disks,arb..etc..) I do have another full 7" cosoworth rear.(again same as above) Is that a roundabout mention of a bunch of goodies for sale? Or bragging that you have spares incase you break your present one... I'd just like to fin...

There is a place in Cali that advertises in places like C&C and Motor Trend; Hollywood Speedometer (as I recall) that can rebuild/repair/recalibrate/reface (some types) of speedometers and tach's as well as other gauges. They couldn't help me with Jaeger stuff from my old Peugeot though. Anythin...

FWIW I have 225 x 60 x 15"s on my 88 XR (rear only) on stock XR BBS style wheels. They had almost no issues. A small rub on the left rear easily modified with a big hammer. They look a bit funny on such a narrow wheel though. We set them on my son's 85 and they had major clearance issues everyw...

Well I don't have a euro version wiring diagram, but I still believe that the driving lights whould be on a separate relay, like the fog light circuit. But I sure can't PROVE it! Perhaps someone on here has access to genuine euro schematics and can tell up what the differences (if any) are. Also, wh...
