"blower motor pains"

preston240sx,

If you have tried all the test procedures I suggested then I would suggest that you pull the blower motor out. If you don't have a paper shop manual then go to http://www.mc2racing.com/ and order the CD version.

blower motor pains

preston240sx,

If you have the pigtail from your fan disconnected, you want to put 12V to one side and a ground to the other side.

blower motor pains"

preston240sx,

After you clean all the connections, turn your ignition on, turn your fan on high. If the fan runs reasonably well then the resister is bad and you need to replace it.

blower motor pains

preston240sx,

Did/does your existing blower work when you turn it on high? Have you checked the fuse that is on top of the false fire wall?

Rebuilding my engine

XR4,

MerkXRTurbo gives you good advise.
If I were to do it I think I'd opt for the 2.5 rebuild!! I'd also go with the second step bigger with the intake and exhaust valves, I think they are 2.02, not sure.

Changing to head studs with the engine in the car?

fastswede, Go to the ARP web site and get the recommended stud stock number if listed, if not e-mail them. I used ARP studs and had no problem with the head fitting. It's just a PITA holding the head and sliding it down on the studs. I used a 110 LBS as the final torque. I believe ARP recommends 90 ...

Tip for gutting Upper

After you get the center section out you can use a die grinder with an aluminum burr to flush it up. Yep you can get them with a 6" mandrel to.

st_rage,

Did you have the drums machined to get rid of the rust ring on the outer edge of the drum?

So, i bought an xr4ti, needs some work. id rate my mechanical abilities as moderate at best so youll have to bare with me if some of my questions seem a little mondain. new to merkur's have a few questions

preston240sx,

On top of the false fire wall is a panel. Remove that panel. Inside you will see a plug. Pull the plug, take the two screws out and replace the resistor pack. That should clear up your fan problems.

Poor low end performance

mike63,

Being that you have your cam time set, go back and reset your base idle. Disconnect the IAC when you set it. After that reset your TPS. I think you will find that you will be good to go after you do that!!

Need help with diagnosis: running rich under load

st_rage,

I'd run a scanner on it as soon as I got it to a point that I could! That should give you some information that will help you trouble shoot.

It is kind of mysterious, with all the modifications that have surfaced over the years for the XR that someone hasn't come up with a good timing belt tensioner!

DG where are you?

It's quite easy the XR belt has a fixed tension, in lieu of a constant spring tension! If you don't check it periodically, it will stretch and slip!

oil pump operation

Tumbler,

The biggest thing is to remove it, take it apart and make sure there are no metal shavings in it from your distributor gear/auxiliary shaft. Change your oil also.
