Damn near blew the garage up (&me)

So, having found that the elbows I got for my IC piping were too large a radius, I cut notches in the back, bent it to a tighter radius & welded 'em up with consumate skill. Actually my welds resembled dribbles of snot so I started grinding them smooth. My son gave me crap for letting the grindi...

Just what did you do on that sub anyway rat-n-a-cage?? I was a reactor operator (nuclear propulsion plant). If I'm an expert at anything, it's boiling water! So cool (or hot). Not many people realise that nuke boats are driven by steam engines that get their steam from the ultimate kettle!!! ...

Whoa - the good old Ideal Gas Law. PV=nRT but you still can't push a rope!

Great info there - thanks.

Yup, you got it John although the IC is mounted above the rad so there is no possibility of hot post rad air finding its way through the IC unless of course I am driving very fast in reverse!

what size radiator are you using ey'?
Blood hell, no need to shout & sorry I took so long to reply but I was answering questions in the order I got them.

It's 30" wide, 12.5" tall and 1.5" deep.

Nope, the IC is mounted above a scirocco rad.

I think Wilky's goal here is to draw cool air through the grille/ic and out of the hole in the hood...it should work too...the front of the hood and grille create a high pressure area and where the hole is should have a slightly lower pressure (read vacuume) so in effect to pull air through the IC ...

Colin wrote:Nice work! Is that a pre-fabbed part moulded in or was it made from scratch? Either way, it looks great. :)

Colin
It's a home made metal job. I just cut a flap the shape of the opening with a dremel and bent the flap down over a piece of plastic pipe to get the right bend radius. I then cut some sheet metal in a "U" shape and welded it to the hood & flap. The corners were filleted with bondo to give it the desired shape (and cover my $#!%^& welds) and the whole thing sanded down. The longest part of the job was figuring out what shape it had to be. It could be done just as well using pop rivets rather than welding & shouldn't take more than a day to get it to the paint prep stage.

AlexD wrote:Are you going to keep it open or put some screen on it
Nah no screen needed - air is coming out of this hole (well that's the theory anyway) and all you'll see do0wn there is a suitably polished little Cossie IC.
