Re: Harbor Freight Tire Changer Upgrades

Point taken. I used a softened hard soap bar in mounting four (maybe five...it's been a while) new sets of tubeless tires on my motorcycles with no apparent issues to the wheels (magnesium). I put close to 200K total miles on those to bikes and checked tire pressures often and found they held pressu...

Ivory FTW: "When the building was in a position to be pushed backward, there was only one brand of soap Rushton was comfortable using: Ivory. He said most soap brands quickly become dry and break apart, but Ivory soap sticks to steel beams for a smoother slide." https://www.washingtonpost....

Re: It's not supposed to glow like this, is it?

^^ Yeah; from the start here I wondered if the device used to take that photo distorted the actual manifold color. Reds, oranges, after heavy 2.3 turbo use are common. White, is not FWIW.

Re: Harbor Freight Tire Changer Upgrades

Water-softened hand soap bar works best: rub tire edge lightly a few times leaving a film of soap. Ivory bars are excellent for this purpose.

Re: It's not supposed to glow like this, is it?

A too lean mixture = sharply raised exhaust temperature (2.3t is engineered to operate on richer side).

Cam timing needs to be verified (slipped timing belt = "down on power").

I've used these; typically I start with just one tab, then a second one if needed. https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-10-108/dp/B0026JK8C8/ref=asc_df_B0026JK8C8/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312094794632&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16840583718523183572&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvq...

Re: Disappearing coolant is normal - really?

Leaky heater core, loose/faulty coolant cap, (or blown head gasket, cracked head or engine block).

I'd first suspect loose coolant cap.

Re: Merkur Midwest Down

Before this gets out of hand, I didn't see any knowledgeable statements that Russ has died, just that his health isn't good and he's selling/sold the business. For that matter, while I'm not doubting the original poster's information, we don't have any publicly released information from Rapido rega...
