Re: Volvo Fused Power Distribution Box & Refreshing Major 12V Connections

I tried that connector years ago and eventually moved on from it although I can't recall the more than one reason why just now. Probably because they are terrible. Holding automotive wiring together with screw terminals is suspect in about every way you can imagine, which goes from an annoyance on ...

Re: Broken Dreams, Circumstances & Choices

I will try and get some additional photos this weekend, but it's not located in a place that will make that easy. I *suspect* it could be driven... the tires hold air for many months at a time, and I've never let them drop below about 25psi. I fill them once, maybe twice a year. It would need a batt...

Re: Broken Dreams, Circumstances & Choices

No PM went to me, but I do want to be clear that photo is six years old, and the car is not pretty good. :) Like, it's in one piece but spent its first 15 years or so in San Francisco and its next 20 years or so sitting outside in Sacramento. It needs an unlimited amount of work before it would be a...

Re: Broken Dreams, Circumstances & Choices

Happy to answer any questions you may have... The things I believe: It has under 150k It was "an old car" 20 years ago, and it's mostly been sitting since then We put a (Centerforce?) clutch on it when we picked it up... so, very old, but almost no miles I think it has stock front brakes, ...

Re: Fuse Box Melted

Use some plastic wedges to expand the shell of the box away from the center. You will almost definitely need to futz with the wire harness under the dash as it’s quite tightly assembled. You should be able to get several inches of slack, though. The terminals can be removed with standard removal tools.

Re: Broken Dreams, Circumstances & Choices

Getting rid of whatever I get rid of won’t be an issue… I can tow it to the pick & pull no problem.

I’m almost as far west as one can go before hitting the ocean - probably wouldn’t make sense to try and get it to Detroit. :(

Broken Dreams, Circumstances & Choices

Hey y'all - Many years ago I helped a friend rescue an '88 (IIRC) XR4Ti from San Francisco. He'd always wanted one, and it was a good opportunity, so we towed a dead XR on a flatbed trailer through downtown San Francisco. That was fun. We fixed the car, got it running... it just *needed* a clutch. B...

Re: T5 Clutch fork....

Hey y'all ... Been a minute, but I wanted to update this thread.... The irrelevant part is that it was crazy hot lot year, and it's been crazy wet this winter, and the XR is a lot worse off for it. I think I may be reaching the point where it's not going to be a streetable car anymore. Most of the e...

Re: Volvo S40 Electric Power Steering Swap

YES! I just got the email on this and am very excited. I've not had a chance to digest it yet, but I think I know what I'm doing this fall! The GPS input makes perfect sense - lots of older cars do not have a way to generate a speed signal, and GPS speed -> CANBUS is a great way to solve that proble...

Teves MkII retrofit docs?

Somewhere I thought someone posted wiring info for sticking a Scorpio master cylinder into an XR, but I cannot find it.

I'm not trying to do this, but I've got this

Image

and want to do a quick & dirty test to see if it works.

Re: Carbon Fiber driveshafts?

My first AL DS was the Mustang driveshaft with the adapter. The adapter is not only a spacer, it also adapts the Mustang yoke flange to the XR's diff flange. My second AL DS is custom, and uses PTI's XR4Ti yoke flange attached to generic u-joints and generic tube. I think I paid $300 for the Mustang...

Re: Installation of Walboro

I always assumed the reason the XR had a two pump system was to keep cabin noise down. The loud pump is outside, the quiet one is inside. I figured the resistor was there to absolutely minimize the noise. The comparable cars I own (Saabs) both have single pumps in the hatch, and they can be heard un...
