He, he....I just scored a genuine RS wing and RS500 lower spoiler on Ebay UK this week for 31 pounds (=$74 Cdn (around $60 US)) and am flying over to get them in a couple of weeks & side skirts & arches I got for 40 pounds a while ago. I'm also bringing a pile of stuff back for other Merkur ...

Yup, I used the hairdryer method to remove them from my old XR and used clear silicone sealant to fix "Cossie" emblems on my present XR. It works great but you have to hold the emblem with tape while the silicone dries (overnight is best).

Yeah, good job Quasi Mofo - like I said earlier "if it works then to hell with the theory" and obviously it worked for your application.

Incidentaly, just how far is Michigan from the end of the world??

Hmmmm, the hood vents appear to be facing forward & hood vents are supposed to be extracting high pressure air from the engine bay into the low pressure area above the front of the hood. If it works though who cares about the theory!

I'm also thinking of raising the centre bulge slightly as I think it would allow more cool air into the engine bay from the high pressure area at the base of the windscreen & maybe also improve the cars aerodynamics. This is just a feeling I have but I'll run it through a simulation and see if I...

I know this doesn't help you now but a project on my list for this winter is to make moulds for an FRP hood & if it works in FRP then I may attempt one in CF. I don't expect the finish to be good enough for the hoods to be unpainted (to show off the fact that you can afford CF) but then I'm only...

If you can fit the original XR fan you should, it moves a hell of a lot of air and most of the high HP XR's use it. I know it doesn't look sexy but it sure does the job. A good shroud to direct the airflow is just as imprortant as the fan itself. This is based on some of my past experience & not...

Phew, what a lot of excellent information, thanks Chris. One question though, with all of the mods you have done to get down to your race weight of 2680 what happened to your weight disctribution and were you aiming for a 50/50 split?

Thanks

Interesting thread - anyone got any weight numbers on FRP hoods?

If this thread keeps going I'll collate the numbers and park it somewhere.

Yup, it doesn't - it's too big for the recess that's moulded into the cossie grille. I know 'cos I tried.

Sure is consistent with what I'm looking for and I think something based on the Roush racing "bumper" is what I'm looking at making. It meets your criteria and has the benefit (to me) of being based on a design with some fine Merkur history.

Ahh, OK John - your forgiven! Nope Eric - I'm a Brit (Leeds) who saw the light and went to Canada in '78 (I tried first to get into the States but you guy's wouldn't have me - I guess I shouldn't have called the immigration guy a revolutionary SOB). I go to Australia/UK/SE Asia about 6 times a year ...

1. a) Meeting fellow Merkur enthusiasts - I have never been involved with such a diverse bunch of folks before - it's great! b) Seeing all of the cars - they are just as eclectic as their owners - again, it's great! c) the show. 2. A better meeting/party venue for the "Merkur only" session...
