Re: Coil overs springs rate for a street?

Tim, what shock/strut is that? JVAB inverted strut. He did the tube to work with the Scorpio spindles and the correct length. They were also valved for a 300lb spring. And top mounts and original brake kit and whatever Just finished a quick bite and a cuppa tea---heading out to make those damn spac...

Re: Coil overs springs rate for a street?

I love the work you did here Tim. I've done a lot of work maximizing travel on my car, including some rather custom top mounts and sinking the struts further into the knuckles (in that case to maximize damper travel), but using larger-diameter springs is a good call. With the fat wheels/tires I run...

Re: T-5 or T-9 mounted to a '72 122c.i./2000 FoMoCo Engine

I guess I hop on the other side of the fence here... The reason most Merkur guys swap from the T9 to the T5 is due to power which isn't a problem you have. A couple pluses for the T9 are its size, it is smoother and quieter (less NVH), and with a good shifter it shifts A LOT better than a T5. If th...

Re: Coil overs springs rate for a street?

Here's the upper adapter. I machined it for screws to hold it in place, and the long sleeve keeps the spring aligned with the spring perch, so no clunking. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Garage-Sale-5-Inch-Coil-Spring-Adapter,45602.html And here's the lower perch from Lefthander (place by where I gr...

Re: Rebuilding an XR4TI

Far be it from me to ever suggest that a person could ever learn anything from any body elses' experience but when Ford was using this car they said the best placement of the fuel cell was between the rear shock towers and directly over the diff....the claimed that in that position it had the benefi...

Re: is there a head direct fit that cn replace turbo head

From what I understand the turbo head seats are induction hardened. In other words there are not separate replaceable seats installed. At least none of the heads I've worked on have replaceable seats. I'm sure some can be installed however. I think new seats run in the $20 each range and turbo valv...

Re: Coil overs springs rate for a street?

Late to the part but it has to be said: One day you guys here will stop acting like its sane to talk about any spring without referencing what the damper is that is controlling it.. And of course without knowing what the damper actually makes for resistance means talking of that in isolation is mean...

Re: Suspension upgrades?

i am using jvab rears for tarmac/road use (autocross). mc2 fronts, but will be reworking those at some point as the valving is not a good match for the spring rate. as with most things, you get what you pay for. and john, i promise i will be stopping by soon to work on the clutch and rear diff issu...

Well, start saving. and note that it can be done a little shorter for pure road/asphalt cars.

Re: Swapping cold side for ihi from turbo coupe?

You know the whole center section, the CHRA, is same between Xratty and 4x4 Cosworth, only the housings and the wastegate actuator and associated mounts are different.
And 4x4 is bigger compressor swheel than 2wd--
And 4x4 is safe up to about 300 hp---and so nice on the pull.

Re: 1/2"-20 Wheel Studs

When you need something that long what I've done in make the hole thru the hub AND the spacer undersized by about .002" of the part of the bolt that is not threaded, the get M14 BOLTS, chuck them up and knock the heads off till round, maybe reduced head height and make it a press-fit thru the ...

Re: 1/2"-20 Wheel Studs

14 x 1.5 here.. Why would somebody go 1/2"...not worth the bother. I need to go with longer studs, so it's not a question of bothering or not. I'm sure I could stick with 12mm and be fine, but figured I could just as easily go 1/2". There's many more options on knurled diameter with a 1/2...

I will apologize for my loss of temper, however, I will stand by my previous comment of, if you don't have anything constructive, or useful to say, then just don't. What I said is perfectly constructive. You're going to have a hard life modding cars and doing whatever job you are supposed to do if ...

Re: Swapping cold side for ihi from turbo coupe?

Boy between you and Chew chew we're going to get to see every dead end idea of the last nearly 28 years. Do it..that's the answer. If you have a idea that's brilliant, why ask? And why research? I've given those little POS pieces of s**t away but I made sure it was to somebody with a 1.5 liter motor.
