Now available - the Search-able IMON archives

Post by Merkur »

If you are astute, you may have noticed that a new menu item has been added to the left hand menu bar on the home page - a link to the IMON archives. This has been over two years in the making and is the result of a lot of hard work by a team of people including Kenny Heck, Mark McChesney and Peter Denbigh. We announced it at last year's Carlisle Awards banquet, but ran into some problems releasing it. It is now ready for prime time!

Here are the very easy step by step instructions:

- Click on this link to access the search page. Bookmark that page so you can easily return to it.

- Enter a search term into the 'Search String' window.

- Hit the 'search' button

- You will get a listing of all the posts from 1994 through 2008 that contain that search term. Results are limited to 100 posts.

- Click 'Show' to expand the post and read all the content.

Try this for some fun and a memory of something that happened ten years ago - enter Dow Jones as the search term. Hit Search and you should end up with one post from June 5th 1998. Click 'Show'.

This is the largest compendium of Merkur knowledge, and from the searches I have done, it is very easy to use - as well as being fast and accurate. We are working on an automatic update that will add posts on a daily or weekly basis to the archive database.

Enjoy! It's amazing the knowledge base we have amassed and the number of people that are no longer part of the community.

Thanks again to Peter, Kenny and Mark,

Paul

This is like a trip down memory lane! Funny Story: I just bought an 86 XR4TI (from ebay) and came back to this board today. I used to own a Merkur back in the late 90's and have missed it ever since I sold it! Anyway, I was part of this forum back then. If you go onto IMON archive and search "Marc Acito". You will find my (very few) old posts! That is crazy! Over 13 years ago!!! So very very cool.

I try to explain to my kids that the Internet is forever. Just think if it was a wet t-shirt contest picture and you were trying to get a job for a conservative bank, law firm, etc.

Is the site temporarily or permanently down, or the link incorrect?

Your link continually presents this message,

No big deal.

Go to Google, use this format:

[term or terms] site:forum.merkurclub.com

Such as:

eatc site:forum.merkurclub.com

brings back 55 hits. Etc.

Should be working again, at least for a portion of the data. For now, it looks like post May-2008 is AWOL, but the older stuff is search-able again. Thanks Mark!

Huh? You just type in a key word you want to search for - the date range is optional - up come a bunch of messages with that key word. I just tried it with "TFI" - worked fine, except I could have been reading for hours!

I don't see a Search button on the page that appears after entering Archives. I've been trying to post a screenshot of that page as I see it but have been unable to paste the link to it into this message.
