XR4 Targa

Post by Steve Saxty » Thu Apr 18, 2019 11:02 am

This is a page from my book showing the Sierra XR4 Targa. I've many more pics of it that I'll bring along to Carlisle and tell you the story if you like. It was planned to tackle Capri four-cylinder market when that car died in Euopre. The market was really for smaller droptop Escort-sized cars and so it didn't proceed. This would have been an SVE program and was well-developed in surfacing and a serious proposition. Not right for Europe but would it have worked stateside? More Sierra prototypes here.... And a $10 discount to buy my book for Club members. https://www.stevesaxty.com/us-samples

I'm glad it didn't make it here and water down the brand anymore! That said, some people will buy anything ie the Aussie Capri, and some people will make anything ie Brad and his Brat!, and Martin w/ the yellow chop top XR.

I love Targas; T-Tops, not so much, although I get it, structurally. I like that they made the backlight removable.

I shows how ballsy they were with XR4 - but (by European standards) this was a very large convertible. The market was on fire for Escort-sized cabs so the step-change made sense. But there was a sound strategy there to tackle the Capri four-cylinder market.

I hope you liked the samples - have you bought the book yet?!
