Will These SVE 17x8 or 17x9 Wheels Fit?

Post by RX-78 Gundam »

Does anyone know if these will fit for an XR with Cosworth arches? Either the 17x8 or 17x9 with 18mm or 19mm offsets?

Thanks

No they need more offset or spacers.

With my 17x7 mondeo wheels they fit well because my car has some hub centric wheel spacers. I tried them on another XR and they fit, but the wheel weights got knocked off. If they had the type of weights that go on the outside and not the inside (stick on type) they would have worked I believe. So it's really tight in there, and most likely the tire would touch something at some point. If you really want 17x8 or 17x9 things like the offset will need to be exact. Remember it will make the gearing taller and the car will be slower. Try some stock 15 inch wheels with 195/50/15 tires. You can always go bigger and wider in the future and see how that compares to the smaller wheels.

I have had these SVE 17x8 rims with 19mm offset on an XR with no problems, no spacers, just bolted them on:

Well if Mike says he bolted them on I guess they will. I know I get some rubbing on the inner fenders with the mondeos but not nothing horrible. And you have to remember some tires are more "squared off" with a wider shoulder than other tires of the same size. I've seen plenty of mustang wheels on XRs in the past, but they are the 15x7 stock sized with the 22.4 offset. Those SVE wheels are pretty heavy at 25 lbs so take that into consideration as well.

What size tire is this Mike? Seems pretty narrow for an 8 inch wide rim. Did you know somehow that the 8 inch would clear but the 9 inch would not or did you test a set of 17x9 as well?

Thanks Andy and Mike for confirmation!

The wheels just arrived at my house and I should be able to get them on hopefully in the next few weeks when I get home from traveling.

The vendor I bought them from listed them as 21 pounds a piece, but I'll weigh them again to confirm.

Thats the trick to get them to bolt right on the car, a narrow tire.
That picture is from 2011 - I can't remember the tire size sorry.
I'm sure a 9" would fit the rear if you wanted to do a staggered set but a 9" in the front is going to take some work to make happen.

Weighted one of the 17x8 wheels and it came out to 22 lbs just for anyone's future reference. Website listed them as 21.75 lbs so pretty accurate I would say given +/- factor of my scale.
