Hey all i'm new!

Post by merky »

Hey everyone, i'm new to the merkur comunity and just thought i'd say he. I just bought a 1988 XR4ti Its and auto and most of its paint on the hood and top of the car is gone (no rust there, but other parts have some). But otherwise it drives. The last owner calls himself a merkur lover, having owned previous XR's and Scorp's. But he never took care of the car and it was in poor mechanical condition. I fixed 5 different boost leaks, slapped in a new thermostat, and replaced a rear bearing along with the worn hub. The car also looked like it was never washed inside or out. But thats all right, now i'm here to restore its one previous glory.

But i also still have poblems. I've fixed 3 holes in the gas tank so far and am working on more. And i also need a new v/c gasket, and i do know about the ranger one but i cant afford buying anything else right now.

But otherwise i love th cars and i hope to restore it.

But yeah just saying hi!

Several files on www.merkurencloypedia.com that are worth reading for newbie Merkur owners. Welcome to the party.

Howdy hey fellow Minnesotan! :) I'm right outside St. Cloud, about an hour up I94 from you... if you need any parts, just holler. I've got a parts car and know where a few XR's and Scorps are in the junkyards. :)

Nice to have someone local on here. :D

Thanks for the info collin i'll give you a shout if i ever need anything else. I already drove the hour and a half up to Brainerd to get a rear wheel hub. I bet you would have known where a closer one was though. Ohh well. I drove right through st cloud to get there too.

Yeah, I've got two of those sitting here on my workbench.

Be careful with those hubs... once they're gone, they're gone for good. No longer available. :o
