Blow-Off Valves (BOV)

Here's a blow off valve thread to go along with my intercooler thread. With this thread I'm going to need a lot more help than with the cooler one... i know next to nothing about blow off valves. Things that we need here are which BOV's work and which don't. Which are loud and which aren't. Prices, etc. I'll take any information that's provided in the thread and assemble it right here in the first post for quick reference. Here goes!

Ebay simple single piston polished aluminum: Very cheap. Can be purchased for under $40 shipped. I have this on my '87, works great, MUCH better than the HKS knockoff. sounds like the car is snorting, not loud at all, but very cool sound.

Forge BOV: Heard lots of good here. They're supposed to be loud and sturdy, but are usually expensive. No personal experience.

Greddy type BOV: Cheap, available in red, purple, and blue on Ebay. between $45 and $55 shipped. Don't know if they're any good or not.

HKS SSQV: Heard some good here. Very expensive for the real deal. there are similar ones on ebay for about $60 shipped but they're not real HKS. I have one of the cheapo versions on my '89. It doesn't discharge boost anywhere near quickly enough so there is still a measureable amount of compressor stall, but it sounds cool and works ok.

guys, i really don't know much about BOV's. i've red the bOV threads, but i have no experience with any BOV's except the stock Denso one from a Ford Probe or the 1G DSM. those are good too. that's it. contributors, contribute away!

RUN away from the Greddy, or any other diaphragm type. Just my opinion. I had one (came with the car...) and it was about impossible to adjust. It either didn't "blow off" (trailer hitching..) or it leaked at idle.
Go with a two piston design, like the Forge or a Bailey.
I have a Bailey DV26 and I'm very happy with it.

I found a cylinder style on ebay for $60 and it is the best BOV my brother has put on his turbo shadow. Cant remember the name of the company but it it for a supercharger set up.

Those ebay BOV's are ok, I got a BPV and it works fine. I had it up to 20psi...if you want to put it on and forget it go Forge.

He's a great guy and might some other goodies for you like the rotated intake for your monster cooler

hmm... that's a lotta money for that intake though

i wonder what it would cost to actually go have it done... but then again i guess his is done right.

this project is getting more and more expensive, and less and less within reach....

$120 for a bov... my whole intercooler is gonna be less than that brand new. that hurts guys. if i'm gonna spend that kind of money, i want a BOV that sounds so bad-awesome, maybe a whistle or a chatter, or something... sheesh!!!

Make sure it's a DV 26. There's cheaper single piston valves by Bailey that you might not be so happy with.

I especially like Baileys over maple walnut ice cream, but I don't understand what that has to do with BOV's. Shouldn't this be in the off-topic section???
