Wanted: 2 door hinges
Hi all, looking for two GOOD door hinges, preferably from the passenger side. (i.e., no wobble). Need black, but any color will do, just a little more work to prep and paint...
Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
I've got a car that I'm taking apart now.
Door function seemed ok last I checked, but I can revisit and get a better feel for it and follow up.
It is white though, but as mentioned, can be painted whatever color you can come up with.

Thanks. Let me know, and have fun grinding out that weld, but don't waste a really good door if someone else can use it whole.

Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
Don't grind or cut anything. Just unbolt it and keep the hinge whole. I looked at the hinges on my 86 car (red) and they look different than the hinges on my loose donor door (89 white). I will take some pics and post them up.john keefe wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 12:14 pm Thanks. The best way to keep your Kia from being stolen is to not have a Kia.

Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
I thought the flappers were all welded onto those bosses on the door? Or, are you advising my8950 not to do anything just yet until you check yours?andyofcolumbusmerkur wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 8:25 am Don't grind or cut anything. Just unbolt it and keep the hinge whole.
Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
I believe the car I have is an 87, I'll check the hinges and get some photos of them before doing anything else.

Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
I have a black parts car that is going away soon-ish. Too damn hot and humid to be monkeying with it right now, but let me know if you still need.

You can PM me your phone if you want, then I can text more photos.
The pins here seem solid, the door does not wobble, lift or anything weird when open.

Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
Brad, my8950 Thanks. Still looking for replacements, though buying from both of you would be a luxury.
Here's a funny thing... Jeff Herson had sent me part of a hinge a while ago (the half which bolts to the body). I thought it was pretty cool because it came with a pin with the circlip retainer (like in my8950's photos). Don't think I ever saw (or noticed) that style on any of the other XR's I've had. This one is a late '87. It has straight rod-pins, knurled on one end, and driven down pretty far into the housing.
I was wondering where Jeff got that unique pin. Wasted some time on-line trying to find a similar 8mm.
Using Jeff's pin, I was able to fix the upper hinge without taking the door off. PITA until I figured it out, but relatively easy overall, just a little creativity required. Now I've got a good method for fixing the sloppiness. I'll post an explanation with pics later.
I can use two good hinges, preferably black, as long as the pins are the circlip style. Of course, I don't have a good pin for the bottom hinge, but the fix should do for a while, or until I have a good pin to swap. So, if you're not otherwise destroying a good, usable door and making me feel guilty, I'll take what I can get.

Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
Sorry you are right. It is welded on the door side. I must have been thinking about that other hinge in there that limits the travel and can unbolt from the door. Seems like later cars got the hinge pin with the clip like shown above.john keefe wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 12:14 pm Thanks. Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
If you want the whole door, it's yours.
This car is going to scrap soon, so I'm trying to get all the parts off of it that I possibly can put to use for others.

Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
Thanks for the offer, but a whole door would be a waste. Can use two spare handles, though. Also, there's a seal on the A-pillar to close off the front of the door window sheet metal from wind/rain. If yours are in good shape, I can use them, or at least the driver's side.

If you can PM me that info, I can check the car out and let you know the shape of those parts.john keefe wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 12:36 pm Thanks for the offer, but a whole door would be a waste. Are you referring to exterior door handles, or interior?

Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
Exterior handles. Figure after 30+ years in the sun, they're eventually going to weaken and break. I can try to get a pic of those seals. Basically, if you open the driver's door and look at the inside of the roof/windshield line as it comes down towards the hood, its that long seal running the length from the end of the gutter, to the junction of the front fender-to-pillar.
Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
Ok, I do have exterior door handles, as well as interior...
I'll check on the door seal too.
