These are interesting, especially the 2nd one. It looks a really good car.
Unknown mileage would be a concern. But no reserve... hell yeah!

As for the 1st one... why wouldn't you fix the A/C issue and eliminate that? Makes me confident that's it's not just a "recharge" issue.
But with all of the other stuff that's been done, that job might just suck up any remaining profit.
However... it's going to be difficult if not impossible to get absolute top dollar with non-working A/C.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't. My money's on Reserve Not Met.

Just for reference...
As far as I know, the world record price for an automatic XR is $8200, paid by me in 2015.
The car has been totally worth it. Let's see if one of these beats that number.

$12.5K BIN is probably a pipe dream, but lets see.
That would tie the world record price for any automatic Merkur.
It might not be low enough mileage to reach that number, but all you need is two people that want it!

The BaT car is nice, but not as original looking as the one Eaton picked up. Is it just the pictures/lighting or is the one front seat a little different shade of black than the other front seat? Also seems like the tach is not functioning. Still a nice car though.

Mine only had one issue... non working gas gauge. Not a big deal with the idiot light.
I still have a non working gas gauge, but now that I have two Merks I''m thinking about fixing it.
We know the issue is behind the instrument cluster, not anywhere else.

I have original paint, which I do consider to be a big deal.
They did a fine job on the exterior of the BaT car though. It really looks good.
IMO, the seat thing is just lighting and they're in good nick.
The tach is broken... probably not that big a deal on an XR with an automatic.

I just noticed that the seller of the Ebay car has zero feedback. That's not helpful.
Still, let's hope the world has changed and at least one of them breaks $8200!

Just $6600 for the Ebay car.
That seller's gotta be disappointed.
He needs to fix the issues and put it on Cars and Bids, preferably with no reserve.

Where behind the cluster? If you mean behind the cluster by in the fuel tank since the sender most likely quit...
Second I'd say to the anti slosh board.

Instrument cluster. Why do I believe this?
After I leave the car out in the sun with the windows up the gauge works.
When interior gets hot, the connection is made. It stops working when it cools off.

The gauge is definitely (sometimes) getting a signal, so the senders are working.

The gas gauge on my 86 car never worked, not at all, then after 5 years or so it just started working. Maybe because I filled up the tank completely? Or because I used it as a daily driver for 2 months? Or because it was warm inside the car? Or maybe the car is possessed. I am pretty sure that's it.

Mine actually behaves very consistently. Let the interior get hot and it'll work every time.
The low fuel idiot light has always worked fine.

I think my guy could fix it and it wouldn't take that long. He's an electrical whiz.

It's about 8 screws plus speedo cable, shouldn't take more than 30 minutes for the entry level garage hack to do the anti-slosh board.

Yeah, I think I'll have him do it the next time it's in his shop.
