NEW Accessory Port for iPod

Post by Bob Weir »

For Christmas, my daughter asked for a better [than cassette] iPod hookup for her Scorpio. I bought her a Griffin iTrip Auto. Obviously, she could just use the "cigar lighter" port alongside the ashtray. But I had to go one better. The center console has a blank round hole. The cig lighter looks the same size. I wanted to use the illuminated green ring, but only the lighter housing is a perfect fit. Into the wire harness between the rear cig lighter port and the heated seat switch, I used the wire hook up for the rear cig lighter port from a scraped Scorp.

TO Do
1] Remove rear panel from console [2 screws & lift panel up & out].
2] Disconnect all switches in console and remove 2 screws from back of console [where armrest meets it] .
3] Remove console insert. Use hose, scrub brush & detergent to remove all accumulated crap. Paint it outrageous color if adventurous. Add string to fish back though holes, unless you have really talented fingers.
4] Disconnect wires from rear cig lighter port and pull wire into center console area.
5] Splice new cig lighter port wires into harness.
6] Reassemble & insert cig lighter into port.
Open cig lighter port is a "great" coin holder. And when you park your car near Temple U in Phila, a cig lighter is of no interest, compared to an iPod hookup.

Bob
PS Now I can enter it at Carlisle 08 as "modified."
