My 88s have a two-speed circuit in the pressure and temperature switch mounted off the receiver/dryer.

My 88s have the CE or MIL light; I understood it didn't come on the early '88s which were produced in late 87 (?).

My 88s don't have this.

I think all the Scorps had the rear heat, just the early 88s only had it where the rear passengers could shut off the flow. My early 88(VIN recorded on an MSF thread somewhere) has CEL/MIL, yes it was very early 88s, not many though, and I think they all ended up in Cali, because they cause all kinds of headaches at e-test time for them...

Wipers Redesigned to clear rear hood

A/C cooling fan 88 - Two speed condenser fan; Bosch fan
89 - One speed fan; Canadian built fan, quieter

A/C compressor mount 88 - casting number starts with 86
89 - casting number starts with 89
This suggests the motor blocks are different between the years.

Check engine light 89 only

A/C lines 88 - all rubber
89 - big evaporator line has a 90° metal bend; small line is all metal

Rear floor heat 88 - adjustable flow

Rear seats Different brackets for the rear seat backs
Hi Ken,

What was the "Rear floor heat" changed to in 89?

Do you know the date on the bracket change for the rear seat backs?

Thanks!

I think the only chnage for the rear heat in mid 88(Euro MY 88, vs 87) was to eliminate the ability for the rear passengers to control the flow. IOW it was at the discretion of the driver.

So, it looks like we're really discussing three model years. Ed points out some differences in his 88 and mine, both of which have June 87 production dates.

I don't know the changeover on rear seat brackets. I do know they changed bolt sizes and the brackets themselves enough to be a real pain.

Yeah, we have 3 different Euro MYs here. 87, and 88 are our 88s, early, and late(change over date?), and then of course 89.

Here's what the service manual says about what we got for colors:

Even claims having a taupe interior. Anyone ever see one?

Yup. Brad and I saw two in one day in fact, at a yard in PA. Only the 87's have that color. Both of these were white cars. The seats and doorpanels fade such that they wind up looking steel gray.

Is that what happens to the taupe exterior cladding as well? The cladding doesn't look that different between my Scorp, and our black ones.

Does anyone have a picture of the taupe interior? I've never seen one, and I have to admit this piques my interest quite a bit!
