Picture of the rear heat control on a 6/87 car:

Picture of late vs early seat colors. The driver seat back is from an 89 car. This one surprised me. I've driven the car for three years, and didn't see this until digging through some old snaps.

Probably. I'm guessing it would require pulling the floor ducts, cables, and control from an older car. But I'm also guessing they deleted it on the newer cars because it didn't make much of a difference.

The '89 had a headlight switch position to the left of the normal "off" position that turned on the parking lights without the instrument cluster. I think the '89 was the only model year in the US that offered the manual transmission. The '89 had a different temperature sender in the radiator that went with the change to the single speed front fan. The rear seat-back motors had a larger pin diameter where it engaged the seat backs along with a different latch in the seat backs for the larger pin.
grondie wrote:Hi Everyone,

As we did with the XR4Ti in the other forum, we're going to attempt to make a complete list of changes that were made to the Scorpio during its production run. Since I haven't owned a Scorpio for more than a week, I'm going to need a lot of help with this one. So, if anything needs to be updated or changed, please just reply in this thread - I will then update the master list as time permits.

The point of this is to create resources for the new webpage.

My black 89 has this, I was under the impression that it was euro only, and my dash lights still come on when in that position. I plan on taking it out, as it could lead to accidental battery testing...

I thought that switch turned on only/only the driver's side front adn rear parking lamps---a European thing related to the need to park on narrow streets close to buildings, with the front and rear driver's side lights alerting oncomers--but not wasting battery juice to illuminate the passenger side lamps as well.

BTW, you can't just install an '89 switch on an '88--the additional wiring needed for it functino as aboe isn't in the 88's wiring harness.

I said my 89 has that switch, however it does function like you describe, leading me to believe it was Euto option of some kind, and our wiring doen't have it set up...

I checked my 89 again, and the 3rd position turns on all the park lights, but no dash lights  I do see comparing both switches side by side, that the switch has one extra pin(numbered 57 I think). I did not look at the 88 wires to see if it had a wire there or not.

Save the effort: I got a switch for an '89, but found no additional wire on my '88 to connect to that extra pin.

Here are some differences missed:

First of all, the coveted leaf catcher was a late 89 item.

Early 87 (and some 88?) cars had chromed interior door handle pulls.

My book also says front and rear floor mats were added as a 1988 running change.

It also says heated seats were new for 89.

I think someone mentioned manually adjusted seats in early units?
