Found a Scorpio in my local junkyard...what parts can I pull

Post by wicked93gs »

To use on my XR? I will pull hubs for sure so I can convert to 5 lug easier, I noticed it has rear disc brakes as well so I will likely pull brake parts as well. Do they have a LSD? Maybe a diff gear ratio? Will swaybars fit? Are they any better? Looking to make a list of stuff I need to pull for possible XR upgrades and maybe other parts in demand to sell to fund my project.

Can't help you on the XR upgrade parts, but I know what's valuable to Scorpio owners:

good slushbox
uncracked dash
instrument cluster
hvac control
blower motor
relay on top of blower motor
fog lights
good seats
roof clock console
...

that's a good start. I'd be interested in fog lights if you find 'em.

Rear brake calipers and lines are needed for those doing Cossie/Scorpio XR rear disc conversions.

I've yet to see a cracked Scorpio dash... (I've got an excellent Raven one FS...)

Window switches
Console seat heat switches and rear cut-off switch

YMMV

Additions Scorpio owners wan or will need:

VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor on side of tranny. 1 small bolt [10 mm?] to remove.

ABS sensor or better yet the entire ABS system at fire wall and related sensor harness at each wheel.

PS to Ed
4 Scorpios I've owned have cracked dash.

Even in several JY finds I hadn't yet seen a cracked Scorpio dash.

YMMV ;-)

All the items that have been posted above are good items to "grab". the list can go on and on. Id be interested in funding for some items (none mechanical, nothing heavy, or difficult to remove) should there be interest on your part. blugg@msn.com 847-688-1234

early Scorpio dashes cracked like a XR early dash....then the materials got better mid 88 and up.......Scorpio dashes still crack, just not as likely, an not splitting like the grand canyon.....its usually a fracture near the 2 oclock position near steering wheel......sometimes a small fracture at the 11 oclock on steering wheel....an yes some dont or havent cracked at all. There are less compound curves then XR an less stresses on the material, cant scientifically say they are better, however they are less prone to cracking then a XR.

Sway bars dont exactly fit a XR.....can you "make" them fit? yes however it will be some (many) changes to do so an end result is effort vs outcome maybe questioned.

Scorpios do NOT have LSD.....someone started that rumor and it lingers on.

Strictly in the context of Scorpio stuff that might be a "migrateable" upgrade over to a XR, aside from what's been mentioned....

- Steering column, including everything that's attached to it (search for more details)
- Dashboard (big job - search for details)
- Seats (front & back)
- Carpet (better quality, but trimming/fitting required)
- Track Control Arms (beefier ball-joint and 10mm inner fitting vs. 8mm - other mods required)

I'll add more if I think of it.

Thanks guys...appreciate the help, hoping I can get back up there...or rather get back up there in time. Out of town for a couple weeks for a job.

Thought I'd bump this thread, given that I now own a Scorpio, so my interest isn't just what parts might be migrate-able over to a XR.

A couple things I'll add....

- Fuel filler body seal (but if original, it's likely dry-rotted)
- Headlights and associated hardware

The hubs can be used on the XR. The moonroof can be used as well if you want to go with a power one.
