Scorpio valve cover paint

Post by brokencase »

Does anybody know where to get some paint that is a close color match for the Scorpio valve covers?

Reminds me of the early 1970's Evinrude Gold paint, which I can't seem to find as well.

FWIW, Duplicolor BCC0425 "Light Almond Pearl" is pretty close to the original color.

Please ignore my original post. I happen to visit Saul Rivkin a few weeks ago and I find I am totally wrong.

Much to my astonishment, The Scorpio valve covers were originally silver!

To think, I've owned two Scorpios and never knew! They just yellow with age and turn gold.
What a surprise.

FWIW, Saul and others have the proper paint.

Good to know, I didn't realize they were silver either!

Yes- the correct colour is a shade of silver. This has been researched and the correct colour located. I do have some cans for sale, but inventory is declining.

Your engine label is ALMOST a correct reproduction. It is missing something. I can post a picture of my intact original to show you.
Do I have to use an off site image hosting service to post here?

Let us try this... See the matrix printed slashes and the hand signed date?
Maybe this changed over the years, but it's hard to tell if your original had it or not.

I hate to say it, but now that I look closer, the characters in Saul's engine label don't look like the correct font either.
See how the "A" is pointy-er" at the top? and the "3"'s don't look the same. The characters in my label are taller.

Well, I pulled a sticker off of my valve cover and sprayed a test blotch of Saul's valve cover paint and I can proclaim it is a very close match. Thankyou Saul.

Yes- I tried as much as I could to match the font with what I had. I am happy to update the file if you have an idea of what font that is? Interesting about that hand-written date mark! I can attest the later cars did not have that otherwise I would have included that. I have several emission certification labels to look at and will compare them. Perhaps my low mile 1988 has it and my end-of-the-run 1989 does not?
