Oh...This is not any news to me...they have been around for a long time now.

Rock auto has had these on clearance for at least the past 2 years. FEL-PRO VS50312T

Its the only way to stop the smelly Scorpio.

Well, good for you.

I overlooked trying these in the past because of the poor reputation of Felpro gaskets.

Seems they can make a good product, price it reasonably. But overcoming a bad product image is a steep climb.

Does Felpro have a bad reputation, or is it that their 2.3l Lima gaskets aren't really meant for turbo-charged motors? Most discussions I've seen about Fel-pro gaskets are they are pretty good, but not quite OEM quality. With ours, that same statement can't be made.

I've always felt that Fel-Pro was the higher end of gaskets...
They seem to offer a lot of these "problem solver" solutions.

I've never had any issues with their products. It's understood we need the Ranger VC gasket for the XR, and this appears to be a similar situation.

The Victor Reines rubber gasket from Rock Auto or elsewhere was the next step up from Felpro cork VC gaskets for many Scorp owners. Seemed likely to seal, and last, somewhat better. Same thickness as cork but resilient when squeezed. I used it years earlier and then on the penultimate redo (and I always check for straightedge-flat VC faces) so the sudden large leak after ~ 2 years was a surprise. The failure/leaking seeps from the VC rear where only a small amount of oil will pool suggesting material weakness.

A difference is that to my awareness that Felpro gasket had not been mentioned or recommended here or elsewhere as the solution, which should have been likely given the commonality of seeping Scorpio VC gaskets.

I thought everybody knew about them. When I bought my Scorpio back in late 2015, this was one of the first jobs that I did (along with the fan clutch, which I also sourced from Rock Auto)

Back in the late 90's I think Fel-pro had a similar but different valve cover gasket that sealed better than OEM.

I got mine from ebay before. Rockauto has better pricing.
