The 4x4 version that was being developed to run in the Paris Dakar Rally in the 80's shared many components with the PSK all wheel drive system found in the Porsche 959. The project was shot down by executives at Ford however.

A convertible top Scorpio was planned for late 1991-1992 production. Karosserie Baur was contracted to make the convertible tops and install them in house, which would then be sent back to Karmann for the final assembly of the vehicle.
