I'm just offering up other options...In case someone is looking for alternatives and comes across this thread.
It would be really nice if the Transit lockset works. Locksets do wear out eventually. You haven't convinced me it would not work...

The bodies of the lock sets look real close to me...

Two keys and a lockset that may work for $15 is not a big risk.

But even more interesting is if the door lock sets are interchangeable..

...and the one lock set in that kit looks "dead on" to the Scorpio's ignition lockset.

Some of those in the kit do have that groove for the clip. Maybe it could be made to work at least on the doors. Usually manufacturers re-engineer everything so it would be pretty amazing if something from the 2000's worked on something from the 80's.

My experience is they don't redesign stuff if they don't have to. It's like how some of the Mondeo switches are interchangeable with Scorpio.

I never took a peek at the door lock set on the Scorpio's. It would be fantastic if the Transit connect stuff would fit.

BTW, here are the full set pics for the 02-07 transit for ~$70. I dare say that at least the ignition lock is a drop in for Scorpio..

Looks like the Scorpio door lock sets have a small bell crank on the back side instead of the rectangular protrusions as seen in the set above.
However I am sure you could do a little engineering and adapt and make your own bell crank to suite. Or it may be the case of a simple part swap between the lock sets.

Seriously considering buying that set and keeping it as a backup in case I break a key off or the ignition lock set jams up due to age/wear.

Ford of Europe, or is it Ford USA?, chose different routes for things like wiring harness connectors for the Scorpio VSS, et al; the Euro connector is sorta triangular while the USA one is squarish. Why? Beats me.

YMMV

So the choice would be MPM, which serves this community so well.

Screw Bangood.

I'm not sure I want an old, used Scorpio lockset Ed...but I am sure there may be other things that I might want from MPM.
BTW - My links above were to show the bell cranks on the locksets.

However I don't think there is anything wrong in looking for alternative, newly sourced parts from more modern Ford vehicles.

What I think you don't like is that those parts are more than likely made in Asia. I don't like that aspect either. But I think you will find that a large majority of automotive spares are made in Asia now. I was surprised to find that the majority of parts sold by Moss Motors for British cars are also now made in Asia.

Where we probably differ is that you feel the problem is driven by consumer choice, whereas I feel the problem is a matter of our national policies.

I don't have a problem with folks posting ideas for alternatives. :cheers

I would probably spring for Jeff's lock set instead of going the Transit route because I place a very high value on originality.
But most people probably just want to be able to get in and start their car.

I'm sure Jeff made sure the lock set actually works before putting it up for sale. I'd totally buy that and have confidence that it's good.
I don't need that, just another key. The most original part is the one that came on the car!

I haven't heard from Russ yet, but we both know I'm in no big rush. This may take awhile.
It's a process, so I'm taking preemptive action.

Not yet, but I haven't asked him in awhile.
This "may" be a COVID issue. Apparently there is a physical book involved.

Hey, news on the key front!

Russ told me his key guy could make one if I sent him good enough photos.
So I sent him some.

We will find out next week.
If it works, there's an alternative to taking things apart.
$75 plus shipping. Fingers crossed.

Today I have a shiny new key!!

The car is not on the premises and the battery is not in it, but I will go over there and see if it turns in the cylinder.
If it turns, we have a winner!

It'll be pretty amazing if this actually works...

Here is a running Scorpio with no battery, started with a key made from a photo.

It worked and I now have a full set of keys.
$85 shipped from Rapido.
Need hi-res pics from both angles.
