Ed,

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you on this issue.

I have been looking into this and can’t really find a “smoking gun” so to speak. These axles were developed 15 years ago, and the original development sample is no longer available.

Unfortunately, with the lack of availability of viable OEM axles for confirmation of specs I cannot confirm what if any issue there may be. You stated that several manufacturers have this same issue, so it seems to be an issue not isolated to just one manufacturer. Due to the extremely low demand, I will probably remove the application from our catalog.

Again, I apologize for any issues you have encountered.

Regards,

Ed Snider

Just wanted to post an update.

Running both Trackmotive axles now with the load spreading washers installed with no problems.

I've been slowly increasing the "stomp on it" power away from a dead stop and they seem to be holding up now to full bore.
I have to add that the new "home made/custom" Borla stainless exhaust with the new catalytic really adds some performance I can feel in the seat of my pants. She's got some giddy up now. Ahh...Scorpio bliss...

FWIW a couple my failures occured right after or soon after making a 90* turn and accelerating. I think such a turn in some manner may have a dislocation effect on the bearing cage. Note my post earlier quoting TM's website on the critical importance of axle length dimension in preventing warranties. Someway/somehow aftermarket CV axles listed for VW wagons might not be exactly the same axle length as OE Ford CV axles for Merkurs.

YMMV

Well, He's got 280hp.

Ed, you and I got around 150 hp. Big difference. If I had 280hp in the Scorpio I would also be looking at the 930 CV joints.

Not sure if the axle splines will work with the 930 CV joints. I am pretty sure that the aftermarket axles have variation in the axle splines and are not always interchangeable. However, I think EMPI may offer axles in different lengths that might fit the 930 CVs.

My 930 cv joints and Swayaway "Red" axles have held up aginst my 400+hp and 8" slicks with no problems. The key is let somthing slip just enough and most any CV joint will hold up . Start getting greedy and thats when the parts fail !
