Scorpio A/C orifice tube location?

Post by brokencase »

I am about to do an A/C compressor replacement. Plan on doing the "Full Monty" complete system flush, new expansion valve, new orifice tube, dryer etc...

I bought the expansion valve and orifice tube on the cheap from RockAuto. Remanufactured compressor was a promo off of ebay at $95.

However I can't find out where the orifice tube goes. It is not mentioned in the Helm's manual.

Found this video regarding orifice tube removal. Not exactly what you asked for but it might offer some guidance.

Good luck.

I wonder if it is inside that line that has the coupling down low on the driver's side. In the past I've separated and replaced a leaky o-ring at that connection but I never looked inside the line to see if there was anything in there.

A/C systems (at least our vintages) used either expansion valves or orifice tubes, not both. Merkur Merkur a/c systems use expansion valves, only.

[That coupling/hose ends aside the compressor have nothing in it.]

YMMV

That's what I was thinking Ed. This is another case where RockAuto sells something that does not apply to the Scorpio.
No big deal as it did not cost much. Got a good price on the expansion valve.

I guess I will start a new thread as I perform the A/C overhaul.
