Grill gasket / seal

My seal has started to come apart on my 1985 XR4Ti.
It was replaced when the car was repainted a few years ago but needs another one.
Does anyone know a source for this.

Looks really nice. Pretty rare to see the Scorpio V6 in there, but on the other hand that's what the "original" XR4Ti's came with in UK (give or take some details), so it probably drives pretty smoothly, like they were known to be back then. Did you do the swap?

Like the seats. Did you have those redone special, or did the car come with them when you bought it?

When you write that the seals are coming apart, did you mean they're disintegrating, or the two-sided adhesive's given up?

Thank you, I did all the work and have been driving this car all summer to work for several years.
Car was purchased as a $500.00 as is special then completely redone from the ground up.
One of the most reliable cars I have ever owned.
The V6 with the 4 speed auto makes for a nice daily driver.

Leather upholstery is from Rapido and is holding up really well.

The gasket actually split and was banging on the right front fender on my way to work last summer so I cut that piece off.

Does not look too bad really but I would replace it if I could.

There is one for sale in Europe on ebay but the postage is killer.

Might need to do that however.

Yes, I installed the Scorpio Trans as well.
Since the 85 XR is a narrow tunnel car there was some trimming and hammering involved to fit it in.
It does fit but with very little space to spare.

I have messaged Rapido but have not heard back.

Also have you looked at companies that make weatherstripping for older vehicles? That may be a good option.

The rear windows have power actuators from a dodge caravan. They are wired into the 4 way power window switch.
The center button in the window switch pops the rear hatch. That is possi le due to the Scorpio rear latch release being used.
It can also be released via the remote start trunk release button.
Power locks are also remote controlled.

I like playing around with electric gadgets.

I will need to look into what weatherstripping might work for the grille.

Nice, I do remember reading about you doing this somewhere with the dodge caravan rear window actuators.
It's been years since I saw it, or somewhere or other we spoke about it.
In my opinion this is very cool and I'd like to have more information about it if you have something else you can share.
Same with the trunk pop, that is also pretty cool.

I made a trunk popper also. But it is just a little aluminum rod/wire that I pull. Not anything fancy. I would be interested in how you did all the lock actuators and openers, especially those quarter windows which sounds tricky.

Here are the hood supports. Nice to get rid of that silly prop rod.
I bought this as a kit off of ebay years ago (I still had the 4 cyl engine installed then).





Another thing I did was extend the front sunroof drains to below the car (rears are good from the factory).
For some reason the factory dumps them into the rockers which can rot them out.



Rear power vent windows.
I grabbed the drives from a Caravan at the junk yard. Unsure of the year.
As you can see they are cable actuated and are basically a bolt-in.
The plastic covers are the rear shock covers from a parts XR cut to fit.






For the switch, I bought a 4 door switch from ebay.uk.
I was able to add more pins to the power window connector from a parts car.

The power hatch release is from a Merkur Scorpio and is basically a bolt in to the XR.
Just need to run the power wire (I used the power lock wiring that was already there).

I installed a power lock actuator from a Scorpio in the drivers door connected to the rod that goes to the lock button by the door latch that is already there.

I installed a cheap remote start unit and that will start the car, lock and unlock the doors and pop the hatch.
