tire pressure question

Post by velocityboy »

This may seem like a silly question, but what the heck is the specified tire pressure for the XR? It has stock tires and rims. I looked on the door sticker- where one normally finds this info- but couldn't find anything on it abt psi.

Sorry to bring up an old post, but the factory sticker in my door jamb says 26 psi. I find this way too low and always inflate to around 33-35, however I just thought I would share this interesting information. I have an early 88 with 15" spatulas.

Tire will give you the maximum, not what the manufacturer recommends for the car. If your '88 came with Spatulas, it's not a "Late '88." My first XR was a late-'88 I got brand-new, and it had mesh... basically, everything the '89's had except the cooling system revisions.

i've always kept mine at the factory spec...26 lbs...though it seems low compared to my other cars.

the mustang svo was 28 lbs front and rear

It's a ride/performance compromise. Most modern tires are lower profile, and lower volume, so they have higher pressures. My Fiesta ST calls for 39 Front, 36 Rear, for 205/40 17 tires. Like Ed, I keep my 50-series tires on my XR at about 33 PSI for daily driving.

Running a stock sized 15, I just go with 32 front and rear. It's an easy number to remember.
