4cyl Mustang t5's...do they have VSS'?

Post by turboplz »

I'm looking at installing an aftermarket speedo and I cannot recall if the t5 I put in my XR had a VSS or not. I would rather go electrical than mechanical if I can find one for the right price, but Id need a VSS to do so.

The VSS plugs into the side of the T5 just like the speedo cable would. Only 2 wires. Some Mustang and Turbo Coupes had them along with a host of other Ford vehicles. Easy part to find at the wreckers.
If your car is currently using a cable, just get a VSS and swap it then wire to your electronic speedo.
This is how we did the rally car.
Easy as pie!

What Ian said, plus, some cars had a "regular" speedo cable with a VSS at the end. It's the same VSS either way - you'll see it has a provision to drive a cable along with the electrical output.
