City Lights & LED lights

Post by DAReese »

OK, my "Euro" lights are from Italy or South America. I can't tell if I'm looking at Italian or Spanish. Anyway, the city lights are not the wedge type 194s. Anyone have any idea what they might be. The base on them is more like the 1156/1157 taillight bulbs.

For those looking for a drop in LED replacement for the taillights and other lights, AutoZone has a decent selection of LED lights that fit the bill.

Maybe I'm confused, but I need a little more clarification on this to know if I can help. Pictures, maybe?

I can't do pictures easily, there is almost no room from the back of the light to the air meter on one light and the wiper reservoir on the other.

The UK lights have the wedge type 194 light for the city lights (the ones that used instead of our parking lights). They are at the bottom of the headlight portion of the light. The ones I got originally were not useable. The buckets were rusted and pitted, and the light sockets were corroded beyond use.

The lights I got to replace them had Valeo on the box, but Cibie on the lenses. The driving lights are still the H3, the headlights are the 90003/H4. The city lights appear to be a bayonet type base, similar to the 1156 bulbs that are in your taillights.

They look like they might be a T4W light bulb.

Led lights are bit expensive but they are more effective. I always prefer led lights

did you use LEDs? How well do they illuminate? I have been thinking about the 194 LEDs for my euro lights, but I am concerned hey won't light up the housing, but instead look like two small dots.

Hopefully I can find led bulbs for next time. Right now they're incandescent bulbs. Mine aren't wedge type, but bayonets.

as to the brightness, they're brighter than the stock parking lights, but really only seem to make the headlight bucket glow.

Ive got 194 LEDs in my city lights. If you get the right type of bulb, they do light up the whole housing. Not super bright, but enough. Ive also got LEDs In the driving lights but i use them for parking lights instead.

But mine aren't 194s. The only 194s I've ever seen are wedge bulbs.

194's are the small wedge type bulb. Are you referring to the light socket underneath the headlight? or the larger inner light (driving lights)?

Yes, the city lights, not the driving lights. The driving lights on mine are H3s, not 194s. The city lights are bayonets, model 3983.
