Cutting in hood vents

Ok so what is the best way to do this and have a clean edge? Patience, a thin disc on the die grinder and a dremel? I scored a set of nice real ones, I can fab the brackets easy enough and I have seen mike o's measurements in YouTube.

Any photos of a completed install from the top and bottom along with any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Lay some painter's tape over the surface where you'll be cutting, measure twice, then cut with a cutoff wheel (think 3in diameter, 1/32 thick,) and make sure to dab paint on the exposed steel at the edges to prevent corrosion.

Heat is the major enemy here.

If you have OEM ones, then you can cut the hood in such a way that you can bend the metal back some and have integrated mounts without making custom ones. The edges are also folded in so it doesnt have any sharp edges. Sort of like rolled edges.

Thanks for intel on this. I like the idea of the integrated bracket using the existing metal. I guess there is no easy way really except to go slow...

There is an easy way. Just buy a hood with the vents already there.

Sure, you got one? How many arms and legs would you like for it?

Cover the paint on the hood and cover your windshield from spraying during cutting - it will pit your paint and windshield.

Go as fast as you want if you're going to bend the tabs in - just make sure it's slow enough to be accurate. You shouldn't burn more than 1/4" away from the cut, maybe a little more, and if you're bending down for a soft rolled edge it will be covered anyway - just rustproof before you finalize. And... when bending tabs use a heat gun to not crack your paint - go slow; etc.

Also remember that the front of the vent is slightly raised from the hood and the rear of the vent is flush.
