Cup holders

anyone ever try and install some of those pop out cup holders. the kind that go in your lower dash.

I'ld post some examples but I can't figure out how to put up pics.

No but if I try to wedge cups between seat and ebrake handle they pop out all over my lap/interior..LOL

exactly why we need some. I think those types of cups holders will fit well in place of the cassette tape holders.

My concern there has been with interfering with the shifter. Ive thought of hanging some kind of cupholder apparatus off the side of the dash center stack just below vent level that would let you finish shifting then reachup for your cup of coffee? I cant think of a nice looking way to do that though

yea I thought about shift interference, but what I like to do is install it and put some cups in and go for a ride, test it out and see what happens.

There was a thread about it either on here or MerkurSport that I found about a year ago using the words cup holder.. I THINK.. that mentioned exactly what you are talking about.

This is my cup holder.



I custom bent a plate to match up and bolt on under the center console and project out the bolt on this Godzilla cup holder I got from burger king back in the early 90's. Works great!

Only draw back is I can't move the passenger seat all the way forward now. NP for me.

Wow memories...I remember having that cup holder!!!...lol I just wedge between seat belt clicker thing and waist..just never let someone in back without moving...it'll explode unopened pop cans...ask me how I know.

I used to wedge cups between the edge of the passenger seat and the seat belt receptacle. That is, until I ended up punching a hole in a Styrofoam big gulp. Driving back to the office was a challenge... trying to steer and shift and hold the leaking cup out the window at the same time.

Now I get funny looks at the drive thru when I ask for a drink carrier for my one drink.

My merkurs previous owner installed a sliding arm rest onto the center compartment that has cup holders that pop out above the e-brake handle. Ill take a picture when i get home. It doesn't interfere with anything while you're driving unless it a huge cup.

That 2nd one sucks, I speak from experience. It tends to un-wedge itself, and it's quite shallow so anything you put in tips over anyway. I like that first one. Simple! No more paying $100+ for the rare XR holders when they do pop up.
