Merkur Depot shorty rad fan setups

Post by milehighXR » Sat May 09, 2015 4:28 pm

I wanna see pics(sent direct to me, or links to them) of what folks are doing for radiator fans for Merkur depot shorty rads. These only come with one flange at the bottom of the rad(at least mine did), and I have a Cossie 2wd IC mounted above my rad, but the fan setup I had previously I don't think will work, unless I have someone weld a flange on the top of the rad for me. So lets see those pics.

Single fan from Siliconeintakes.com. Attached it with included plastic fasteners. It has been on my daughter's car almost 3 years without issue.

At the bottom, I used nuts and bolts. At the top, i used the zip ties they provide. Can send you a photo if you pm me your number.

So, is a shroud not needed with the shorty? :econfused

Looks like lots are running without one (including myself) but i thought this was a good idea: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=28838&start=0#p264699

He used a shroud for a Miata. Pretty inventive.

If you use 2 12" fans, then there isnt much surface area left uncovered. You'll be fine.

Here's my setup. Shorty has been moved to the top to allow the use of the stock '89 upper hose, make space for the IC at the bottom:

It was stretching a bit with mine, plus I like having the vent hose at or near the highest point on the engine side. This also gave a lot more room for the Porsche 944T IC I was planning on installing at the time, or any number of other aftermarket IC's.

Darn near direct routing for radiator fan air to VAM.

Pic is older, there was a project (turbo replacement) underway at the time it was taken; VAM/filter were wired up and out of the way (red wire). Filter resides next to holes for stock airbox setup, barrier separates it from engine compartment air. So don't worry, the kids are alright.

Gosh darn it, I'm so sorry I forgot that, I'll try to do next time better, Sir. :notworthy

By the way, are you still "cooling" your TCIC from bottom to top and "venting" the air out from that credit-card-sized slot on the back corner of the hood?
