89 xr4ti

Post by David10259 »

I'm about to pick up a 89 xr4ti with 60000 on it I was planning on lowering and getting a nice set of wheels and tires for it but I can't seem to find any parts for it from well known brands so I was told its on the f platform like the foxbodies so I was wondering if anyone knew if those suspension parts fit on the xr4ti or not?

Hi David, Welcome Aboard, good to have you with us. 8)

The short answer is "no," although some Fox body cars have 4 x 108 wheel bolt patterns, and some fit Pony or other wheels with this pattern, the offsets tend to the small side, pushing the wheels out farther than is ideal. As for other suspension parts... no, you need to look at parts designed for these cars or their European brethren. My best avice is to curl up with this and other Merkur informational sites, such as the Merkur Encyclopedia, and Merkurtech.com. All of these can be found at www.merkurdesktop.com.

Then, of course, ask away! :cheers

A common wheel you can use is ones from the Ford Contour.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread because my question relates to the OP.

I have a set of 16" x 7.5 wheels from an 87 T'bird. I think they're called the "snowflake" wheels. They have the 35mm offset.

I've been told they fit the 87 Merkur with stock suspension and brakes. Tires I have are 215/45/16

So, do they fit without rubbing? Do I need a spacer or different lugs?

My prediction is that they will-- but try them on, and see.
Oh-- and I think you will need lug nuts for those wheels, but call Tire Rack or a good shop for that angle data.
