Cosworth headlights

Post by Choochoochoo »

Getting ready to purchase some cosworths for my toy, am I going to have to cut and splice the pigtails into the stock wiring?

4 to 6 relays, and some hd fuses too.
And a meter. I've seen 3 different wiring schematics... Mostly interchanging grounds and high beam or driving lamp circuits...

If ya' wanna make an omelette...

Cossie lights are a very worthwhile mod, as I see it. Our lights totally suck in comparison, both functionally and aesthetically.

^^ Over-hyped, stuck on loop, as usual...

About $75, drop in w/minor trimming of headlight openings' grille gasket; good low beam illumination and projection, fine to excellent high beam illumination and projection.

Pretty sure those are Mustang lights, so why not include the model and year range to actually be helpful? And although they are functionally better than the stock lights, they don't look as good as the Cossie lights... but it's certainly a great and economical upgrade.

Another thing to look for with Cossie lights is whether they came from an LHD (Continental) or RHD (British) car. The pattern will be wrong with RHD.

BTW, looks like somebody's been drawing on your car with a Magic Marker. Hope you catch 'em.

^^Looks good. What is that from?

That being said, the Euro & SA lights just look better to me. Plus, the light they put out is amazing when compared to OEM. European regulations have always allowed brighter lights than the US ones.

Depending upon what your lights are from, they might actually be brighter than my Cossies, but mine light up the road better than almost anything I've ever had. The projector beams on my Camry are about the same in light output. The Camtry does have a crisper cut off though.

Light reflections on a rain wetted hood. Get real.
.
Cuz I won't waste my time futilely explaining more about this equal, less costly, less involved alternative to Euro parts snobs, actual, latent and/or potential.

My Scorpio has Euro lamps; low beams to me appear no better than and maybe a tad less bright than OEM Scorpio units with clean lenses; high beams are bright, but to me not much if at all brighter than those units in my red XR above.

So: Euro lamps = more expensive = glass prone to nicking/breakage and not easy to find replacements ($) = rewiring/adding relays required...for paltry if any gain over the units in my photo. Except Euro cult snob appeal.

And no matter the above testament, Euro lamp cult snobs and wannabes will continue to proclaim and believe those units are the Ne Plus Ultra. Not.

From memory: bulbs in my Scorpio Euros weren't higher wattage. The high beam illumination is from both low and high bulb circuits working from respective reflectors at the same time (hence need for relays on each side).

..wasn't talking about the hood... but, never mind.

OK, it's a "waste of time," and "futile," yet you go ahead and explain it anyway (except, of course, for providing the necessary information for anyone who likes your idea and might actually follow up on it). :dunno

And, for some of us, some of the appeal to Merkur Enthusiasm is a touch of Euro-snobbery. You say that like it's a bad thing.

The mustang head lights are from an 87'-93' mustang, I got mines at e-bay for about $75 or $85 I can't remember exactly.

Here is a pic of the lights.

When you are looking at the lights(in person not in a pic) they looks crystal clear you cannot see the "stripes in the lights.

Make sure you get the 3pc lights as there is a 1pc light for the same years. You'll discard the inner and outer lights when fitting into the XR.

If your goal is to go with a projector retrofit, get ones that do NOT have fluted lenses like Ed's.
