speedometer cable mounting

Post by fh4ever » Tue Feb 23, 2016 7:37 pm

hi all, new here, I have an xr4ti type 9 (maybe '86 model) 5 speed tranny in an Anglia. I cannot seem to understand how the speedo cable is held in to the tranny. I dont have a cable at the moment so I am unsure what the cable end should look like. The tranny has no bolt hole, no threads, no circlip grooves on or near the speedo output. Can someone post a pic of the cable end, and maybe a pic of how the cable is mounted in the tranny? anyone have a cable for sale?

thanks all

x 2 held in with a c clip

Have new and used T9 speedo cables on hand in both flavors ( 1 pc standard one and the 2 pc one if you want to run a VSS sensor in line for cruise control or other reasons )

thanks folks...since you mention spring clip, a lot closer look (and better light) revealed the groove the "retaining ring" goes in. Merkurdriver...I may need a cable, but at the moment I need to get the tranny back in and see how space is available next to the modified tunnel and crossmember....I think I may have to put a right angle gearbox as well as a ratio adatper to the the stock anglia speedo to read halfway close. A little more research is needed first and then I may need one of your cables. Can you send a pic of the speedometer end of the cable?

just as I suspected...the speedo end will not work for me. I need the threaded "cap" like the other end. might have to have a custom cable made. I had been running a pinto 4 speed, pinto cable, on the anglia speedo with no modifications....not so lucky with the T9. A little research and I may need to get back to you....thanks

The other "side" of the 2pc T9 cable is like how you describe, T9 trans end on one side and the threaded cap on the other side. . . have in stock new and used.
If you happen to text, PM me your # and I can quickly/easily send pictures of a variety of T9 cable options.
