No fuel....
So my car has developed a seriously annoying gremlin. Every so often when ever it wants, the fuel pump cuts out. Then the car won't start, because the fuel pump isn't working. i don't know what to check, all the fuses look good, and I've checked what I believe to be the fuel pump relay, everything looks fine. I'm at a loss here. I'm getting frustrated with the car and can't think straight right now.. Any ideas on what to check?

Inertia switch in the trunk? Little white button.

As far as I can tell, the inertia switch is fine, how do you know if it's "bad"? It will still turn on and crank over with no issues, but the fuel pump doesn't pressurize the system. Where are the ecu grounds? Maybe fuel pump grounds?

Re: No fuel....
The female terminals in the engine compartment fuse box tend to lose their clamping power over the years, leading to low/no voltage-to-the-pump situations. Remove the fuel pump relay from this fuse box, and get a tiny screwdriver or a pick, and tweak those terminals in a way that will let them grip the relay's terminals tighter. Also, do you know for sure it's a fuel delivery problem only, iow, you do have spark, or power to solenoids and sensors? It could be the EEC relay not activating the pump, if your missing power for the rest of the EEC system

All I know currently, is that when this happens I get no priming from the fuel pump, all the lights on the dash light up, it cranks over just fine, all the lights on the dash light up, but no start. I would try starting fluid but I don't have any right now.

Re: No fuel....
What Sabre said; common issue. Good fix in addition is to add a layer of solder to the FP fuse prongs to help get a better grip on them by the female connectors.
YMMV

also (someone will chime in) near the battery on the right side of the engine bay there are some wires, for some reason i believe they are attached to the starter solenoid, come loose and create a bad connection, there's something that kills power to the pump there.
My car wouldnt start once after storage, I removed and cleaned and greased those connections and I have not had a problem since.

Re: No fuel....
So I just disconnected the negative terminal on the battery, then after a few minutes hooked it back up, and now the car starts with no issues whatsoever. I'm so lost here, the fuses and delays are all good. What would cause this problem I'm having and be reset by cutting the power to it? Being pretty new to these cars I have very little experience with them, but I'm almost leaning more toward the inertia switch, but it's just a guess.

Well as i just mentioned if you read it, you probably jiggled the wires in that area when you disconnected the battery terminal.Choochoochoo wrote:So I just disconnected the negative terminal on the battery, then after a few minutes hooked it back up, and now the car starts with no issues whatsoever. I'll double check the wires on the starter solenoid, just in case.

I had a very similar experience to yours, it cut out a few times, and would sometimes start up and cut out. It ended up being the inertia switch. To rule it out, you can unplug the inertia switch connector and directly wire the two terminals of the connector together. This will at least rule out the inertia switch as a problem even if it doesn't solve it.
