I used Mustang liners, they need to be cut and heat shaped to fit. After getting the back bottom part started you can see what needs to be cut out. Then start to work forward and reuse all the original attaching screws and locations. The big secret is to use a heat gun after you get the screw in to heat the liner and make it completely pliable. Then you move it with anything except your hand because the plastic gets pliable after it reaches 610 degrees or so. The liner will have the symbol <PP> on it which means it's Polypropylene and melts around 610 degrees. Move it to fit and then let it cool, then go on to the next attaching point and repeat. It takes a couple hours to do two liners but its not hard work or anything. I didn't use the attaching points out at the fender arch, I just made sure that it tucked in behind the fender lip nicely. No problem if you screw up because they only cost $19 bucks each.

Easier said than done. That's pretty hard core spam there.

Curious about doing the rear of the XR as well.

Sorry to dig up the old but I read something about the focus ones working some where. Anyone know about that?

Yes, Ford Focus rear liners have been used in the XR rear, and as of a couple days ago, in a Scorpio. I'm not a big fan of these, as they're made of this carpet-like stuff that holds a lot of dirt. They are easy to push into shape and cut as needed, so that's the plus side.

I got mine out of a junked 2012 Focus, so my investment was pretty small. I'd probably try something else before trying another set from a Focus.

The felt ones help to reduce noise, I see them on lots of newer cars, of course since I drive a 30 year old car, everything is a newer car...

Yea, my Audi has something like these, but not so sponge-like. The Focus liners were still full of dirt after washing them thoroughly (or so I thought).

Good find, even if not the best choice. Figure when you're stealing brake parts from the focus take the rear fender liners as well... :)
