Is that a 3" or 3.5" diameter driveshaft?
thanks
James
It's 3 inch.
German engineer: We custom fit every part in the Porsche engine.
Japanese engineer: You mean that you make every part wrong to begin with?

Did you calculate its critical speed?

Does anybody know what u-joint the Aerostar driveshaft uses? Is it 1310 and thus compatible with this flange yoke? I have an Aerostar DS that is 52" long (needs to be ~47 u-joint to u-joint) but I can get it cut down.
thanks

It depends on the year of the Aerostar. The early ones used a crimped-on yoke with a "different" U-joint. The later ones with the welded-on yokes should be 1310.

Even if you have an early Aerostar driveshaft there is a solution in the form of a hybrid U-joint. But you really want the later driveshaft - it's thicker and more readily shortened.

Back from the dead bump! Is this flange designed to work with the mustang driveshaft or more so for ease of having a custom DS built? Looking at their notes on the product page, they added an inch to centerline and I'm just curious if that inch is making up the differance an adapter would be. Unless I'm reading that wrong?

It's mostly meant for a custom driveshaft, but that could also mean a Explorer/Aerostar/whatever shaft that is shortened.

I'm not sure if you can buy directly from Powertrain or if you need to use a reseller of their products. Either way, I'd start with Powertrain and go from there. Everything you need is in the first post.

Feel free to update this thread with your results.

Can anyone confirm the correct length that an Aerostar one piece needs to be shortened to?
Many thanks

47.5" That assumes stock engine location, T-5, and stock rear differential.

IIRC, 4x4 Aerostar has a 47" driveshaft, which is close enough.

Great thanks Brad, does that also account for this new differential flange?

That should be inconsequential. It's not like you're adding any sort of spacer/adapter, so required driveshaft length wouldn't change. Orrr, you could just buy this....
