Merkur Flange Yoke To Mustang Driveshaft

Post by foundnemo25 »

Ok All, I have found a merkur differential flange yoke that matches the mustange driveshaft (1310 u joint). It is $136 plus shipping. This is to eliminate the flange adapter that a few places were providing that causes slight vibrations at higher speed. I am not a big fan of adapters, therefore I searched for the correct solution. Powertrain Industries is the company that sells them, complete merkur xr4ti and scorpio drive shafts, as well as the merkur Guipo bushing (flex disc). There are 3 different types of the flange yokes, but the one that everyone needs is the 1310 setup for the mustang.

I am just trying to do my part. If what I find can make it easier on everyone, then I am going to share it.

Ok to let everyone know, the U-joint that will have to be used with this flange yoke is a 1310/1330 u-joint Part number 353 at most part stores. This allows for the U-joint to match the flange yoke (1310) and the mustang driveshaft (1330). AAny other questions, let me know.

Is there another place that this flange occurs in "nature"? I'm assuming that the XR and Capri diff flanges are the same?

No. It didn't exist, anywhere, as a stand-alone part or on a manufactured vehicle, until recently.

I used one of these after modifying it on a custom aluminum driveshaft, they list it for Merkur and Capri:

Any issues or difficulties balancing that? Any vibes or any other issues? Very nice, BTW.

I can't imagine any reason why there would be any issues balancing that setup. FWIW, my most recently installed 1-piece driveshaft setup is the smoothest driveline I've ever had on a Merkur. I suspect the keys are in having the differential pinion angle being flatter than stock (which tends to nose-down too much) and all rear-end bushings being either polyurethane or plastic (for the STA's).

I have the adapter installed, there is no vibrations felt at any speed so far (only gone 95mph). It is definitely a good buy.

Is that a 3" or 3.5" diameter driveshaft?
thanks
