Gnari fmic
Just found it today. Looks legit, anyone have any experience with it? They claim it's a full bolt on setup, and even retains charcoal canister in its stock location.

It's here:
http://www.gnariperformance.com/product ... ooler-kit3
There is nothing about the photo that suggests it's bolt-on, but hey, who knows?

No instruction on the page though, but it does look decent...

Re: Gnari fmic
It doesn't appear to be usable with A/C, and the BOV is probably single-piston, although there is a provision for recirculation, if I understand their description correctly. They don't show it mounted, but I'm assuming it goes around the bottom sides of the stock rad.

It looks nice, but I'd go with Mike's setup. I like having A/C in a car I drive during the summer. I even re-installed the A/C back in a Scorpio that had no usable A/C parts in it, and that is meant to be my winter/rainy day driver.
If I ever have to replace my setup that is likely the first place I'd look.

^^^ Nice, even nicer once you isolate the air filter from the heat. That BOV/BPV fitment is especially trick.
Got any pix of the core fitment itself?

That's from their website, I did send an email asking for better pictures of fitment.John Brennan wrote:^^^ Nice, even nicer once you isolate the air filter from the heat. Got any pix of the core fitment itself?
If they respond I will share.

I'll probably stick with the simple setup I have for the time being, but I'm very interested in purchasing that setup now that I've seen it installed, decent price too.

Also from the website with the pic :

"GN35R Ball Bearing Turbo upgrade"
...so not a stock turbo....there is no 2 bolt flange 90° outlet in their kit to bolt up the IC piping to a stock XR T3 turbo.
The BOV/Bypass valve set up is very nice looking....however its on an 89 with the coolant bottle on the passenger side.
85-88 I'm not so sure the room will be there for the coolant bottle, the two hoses that go to it, etc.
Look at the picture and imagine the passenger side bottle there and the 2 hoses that go from the rail to the bottle -- maybe its just me, but looks like the BOV would reside in some of that space.
Its a really nice looking kit but I'd like to see it on an 85-88 with a stock turbo before I'd consider it a:

Re: Gnari fmic
I think you're right on both counts... I'd be OK with my '89 and non-2-bolt flange turbos, but most would probably not.

I doubt it's a bolt on, I've never seen one that bolts on.

that owner must have a lot of sentimental value with his Rapido setup.Spaldino wrote:merk23literturbo wrote:I doubt it's a bolt on, I've never seen one that bolts on.

The cost of that kit is more than I've paid for any of the 8 XR's I've owned.
I can't justify his costs...
Nothing with hot rodding is a bolt on, I think thats a marketing angle to make it sound like even a caveman can do it.
People buy, then they get put on the shelf in the garage, company has your money, and you have parts in your garage that never get used...
Then you try to sell 30 yrs later thinking it has gone up in value and is some sort of antique.
