Lsd instal

Post by Choochoochoo » Sat Jan 21, 2017 11:05 pm

Looking at picking up a lsd from mc2racing, but ive never done gears before. How difficult is it? I would say i have the skills to do it, ive just never messed with gears before. As far as i know its all about getting the mesh adjusted correctly. Anyone able to give me some advice on this?

I also got the kit from Grayson/mc2 for this. I opted for him to press in the bearing races into the cups as well. You will need something sturdy to mount the diff to while your grinding the case and setting up the gears. If you don't mess with the pinion gears the job is much less involved. The factory manual goes through the steps on setting the lash with a dial indicator. Something that doesn't come with the kit is snap rings for the half shafts. I ended up getting a couple from work, wish I would have saved the sizes to post up.
Definitely read up on the threads as there are some helpful tips in there. Oh and buy the bearing adjustment tool that's a must have. All in all it was a reasonable project and I'm very pleased with the results.

its super easy to adjust the backlash on that diff, you dont have to mess around with shims and crap. Even if it looks good to you, verified with a gauge, I would build it and just get it checked by a transmission shop.

The diff weighs like 50 pounds so its not hard to transport either.
