Lately, I have been working on the upper half of the engine and found sorry looking fuel line connecting the Bosch fuel filter (I think) and the engine. I replaced it how it was, but I am not getting a good seal (ie spraying fuel). Is there a certain fuel line part number that I can get at a parts store? Or maybe a better question, what kind of setup do you have there? Normal fuel hose? High pressure?

Re: Fuel line replacement
Maybe you just need the clamps that are special for fuel lines? they are different the the ones at the pic, I just used that fuel line clamps on my XR at the very same location than you (well, with the difference that I removed the whole fuel dampener) and I got no leaks at all, I get the fuel line/hose and clamps from O'reilly's.

Re: Fuel line replacement

Re: Fuel line replacement
There are small, special O-rings inside each end of the OEM hoses; the O-rings are available on auto parts stores' shelves (~ $8-$9 for fourx two large for supply line, two small for return line.

Re: Fuel line replacement
so I got one for ya. I removed the damper (not filter), disconnected a wire connector attached in the front of the intake manifold (front driver corner below the intake elbow mounting), and attached the fuel line directly. Usually, the radiator fan constantly ran (switch issue), and the fuel pump hummed. Now, I noticed the fuel pump hums for about 2 seconds and kicks out and the radiator fan does not turn on; but the car ran and didn't leak fuel. Thats a win I guess.

Re: Fuel line replacement
Are you talking about the ground (visible in your pic above) that is attached to the intake manifold? That should certainly be attached.Chris_12 wrote:disconnected a wire connector attached in the front of the intake manifold (front driver corner below the intake elbow mounting)
The priming operation of the fuel pump as you describe - on for 2 seconds with key in on position - is correct and normal.
As for using "universal" fuel hose with hose clamps for this application, that's not recommended. The stock fittings are not barbed, so you risk blowing the hoses off.

Re: Fuel line replacement
Well, I bypassed the damper. No fuel leak now. As for the wire, I got the ground wire. It is behind and not connected to the upper intake. Radiator is now working. It seems with the good comes the bad. Unrelated though. I found my large oil leak. I replaced it with the recommended gasket. I guess either the cover or head isn't flat... Or both
