XR4 Brakes

Post by Larry H »

I have lost a lot of brake peddle. Much travel but at least I still have some brakes in my 88. I bled the brakes and had little or no help in braking. When I depress the brake peddle I hear what I would describe as wheezing! Am I dealing with a failing master cylinder or could the brake booster be the issue?
any help / suggestions is greatly appreciated.........

Larry,

Hi, it's Christophe. Any way to get a stethoscope up near the booster on the firewall and press brakes? Seeing any fluctuation in vacuum? Feel free to give me a call on my old cell # if you want to talk it through.

If there's been no other change, I'd suspect the MC is failing. Has the fluid level gone down at all? I once had a failing MC that was leaking into the booster. I had about a pint of fluid in there before I figured it out.

My master was bleeding off pressure internally from front to back so I had almost no brake pressure.
