Block of wood and a small mallet. It doesnt take much to drive it in.

I have a PVC union that fits nicely and works well.

Thanks just bought a three inch PVC cap that should do the job!

What do you use for the pilot bearing removal?

I go to my local Autozone and rent their blind hole puller tool. There's an insert in the kit that fits almost perfectly inside the throwout bearing and makes removal a breeze.

If the link doesn't work it's a Great Neck brand, part # 33627128

Grease and a punch or clutch install tool. Just be sure to put the rag around the punch before you give it a whack.

pilot bearing was a nightmare for me. The grease trick never works on these pilot bearings, they're way too small and dont have enough surface area.
The harbor freight pilot bearing puller is also too big, but maybe if you filed down the tips, it could work... never thought about that till now.

I've also heard from a couple folks that using a slide hammer is another way to get the pilot bearing out.

I have only/ever used a slide hammer. Autozone loan them (with pilot bearing puller attachment) and I did that until I finally bought my own. They are great for pulling seals, too... and I recently learned can be helpful for clocking turbos. ;)

I finally got a loaner pilot bearing puller from Advance Auto, but still took some effort to get it in there solid enough to pull the bearing.

Thanks to all for your help!
