And now merkurdepot has a few reproduction hoses available in silicone, including the elusive lower hose!
Very true! Glad we have a source for the lower hose which was very difficult to replace previously.

I'm using a Dayco 71679 cut down for my upper hose on the short radiator (I see Merkur Depot added that to their website now too...)

So....

After some experimenting I think the OP's issue (beyond needing to replace old and suspect hoses) is the reservoir cap.

I recently swapped coolant reservoirs (i removed the one on the car to clean the level sensor and on removing the lower hose the nipple for it cracked) and then notice the coolant level on subsequent days. Yes, the recovery bottle turned out to be holding a lot of coolant. After testing alternative used-but-seemingly-still-okay reservoir caps in my parts bin the regular coolant movement into the recovery bottle still appeared.

My solution was two-fold: ordering new reservoir caps (cheap at under ~3$ from Rock Auto, and not stocked any more at Advance Auto...), and capping off the nipple for the recovery bottle hose.

A week later, with some days above 90* and one @95*....so far, so good.

Pics below are to draw attention to the two sealing areas of the cap which deteriorate from normal use, or even accelerate the deterioration process if the cap is frequently removed/reinstalled to add coolant e.g. These caps are wear items with limited service lives under severe use, and now and cheap enough to be disposed of every year or so.

I don't know this, but I feel like traditional "radiator caps" are one of those things that's gotten really cheap over the years. They've gone from lasting several years to just a couple, if you're lucky.

I even got a new one from Canton Racing that was failed right out of the box. They're definitely getting cheap.
