5th inop in t9

It's been a while since I've had a t9 apart so maybe someone can shed some light on this. I acquired an auto car with a swapped in t9 with a short shifter. In shifting to fifth there is nothing there, goes to the point and stays but nothing happens, no crunch, no grind, like I shifted into neutral. Is there anything that I could check with the trans in the car?
